Wilm and kids, 
 So sorry we couldn't be there, out of town. We shared so much, for so many years, the greenhouses, the fields, our homes, school, Chinese lunches and so much more, good times, bad times and oh so many laughs. I wish I could be with you now. Your family has really grown, watching the video. Our kids remember so many times spent with your family. It will never be the same, but you're a strong woman. May your faith remain strong through this aweful time, you two we're so close. God Bless

Wilma and family you have my deepest sympathy on the loss of Tim will be praying for you!

As I reflect on my memories of Tim, let me start by saying Tim was an amazing guy (amazingly a pain in the butt sometimes ;) but amazing! 
I worked at K Gardens on Saturdays (I held the fort down at the "farm" while Tim and Wilma went to farmers market)  One of my memories (I can't say a favorite .. lol) was Mum time.  Anyone who works or worked at K Gardens will never forget mum time! ;)  The watering system consisted of a "dripper" in each mum pot and Tim was ADAMANT that you checked each and every pot (and there were A LOT of pots) to make sure the dripper did not fall out.  You walked up and down each and every isle bent over checking pot after pot after pot. (now you see why I didn't say "favorite memory" ..lol)  About 2-3 yrs ago Tim put in a new watering system for the mums.  I showed up for work on a Saturday, 
Tim asked me: What do you think of my new watering system? 
 I said: Oh my gosh, that is awesome! 
Tim replied:  Really, if you don't like it I can put back to the way it was (with his wonderful little smirk on his face)  Going to miss that smirk! 
Another memory, I was helping a customer who was interested in Hostas one Saturday (Tim was home, not at market for some reason) and the customer asked me if I knew much about Hostas, I said "just enough to be dangerous"  I did not see Tim standing behind me , as a glanced back I saw coffee flying out of his mouth. I think that was the first time I made him laugh (or choke) I'm not sure which now that I think about it ;) 
Another favorite was, Tim would come home from market and ask me: Did you make me any money today?? If the answer was no, then he would say "well I guess you worked for free today!  Again, with the cute smirk and a little chuckle!! Again, going to miss his cute smirk and the twinkle in his eye.

Tim would always get my goat when I showed up to sell something by pretending to be angry and then turning it around with a joke on me.  Aside from Michigan Egg, I really didn't know Tim well, but I will always remember his courage to keep going when the cancer was eating him up. He must have been a great Dad, Uncle or just plain person. Rest in Pease, Tim, may our Lord comfort you and reassure you that what you did when you were here made a big difference in many lives ... even and old salesman.

Such a sad day! Tim always had a smile for you whenever you saw him but there was a twinkle in his eyes that I will never forget! It will stay with me always. Our family would like to express our condolences to his entire family. A family that we have grown to love!

I am going to miss the yearly visits when Tim would come to our place to look at all of the hostas that I am hybridizing.  He had a good eye for seeing the potential in the young plants.  Tim was extremely generous in sharing his hosta with me.  My favorite memories of Tim will be from the trip that 5 of us hostaholics took thur Indiana & Wisc. last summer to visit hosta friends and growers.  Rest in peace friend. No one grew better Hostas.  Tim had the greenest thumb.  I always tell people, "if you want the best Hostas, go to K Gardens.  They have the best plants and you couldn't ask for nicer people than Tim and Wilma.  Tim told me once he wanted to come to my house and walk my gardens and see all my Hostas.  I would have been so honored if he had.  RIP Tim.

It still seems so surreal, this wasn't suppose to happen. I go to the farm now and it just feels wrong. As I was watering yesterday, my eyes kept wondering out to the fields, hoping that any moment I would see you come tearing up on your tractor. I am going to miss you so much Uncle Tim. I am going to miss our market days together, especially the days when it was just you and me at the market. We would listen to oldies the whole way down, you even got used to me dancing around and turning the radio up when my favorite songs came on. And if we got to Michigan Egg and a Doors song was on you would even let us sit in the truck and wait for the "Good part" to be done before we got out, just because you knew they were my favorite. It was always fun going to the Kalamazoo market with you. I loved our little competition of seeing who would have the best sale of the day, and of course giving each other a hard time. I loved to see how excited you would get when we had a really good day, and then talk about it the whole ride home. I am going to miss Thursday's doughnut days when you would stop back at the farm from your deliveries at Sprinkles to drop me off a full dozen of doughnuts just for me...and the look of disgust when you would get home that night and see that yes in fact I could eat just about a dozen of doughnuts in one day. I am going to miss working in the hosta houses with you. It always ended with a walk through house six. There you would teach me about the different varieties you had collected throughout the years, were you got them from, which hosta they were a sport of, and why they were important to you. You loved talking about your hosta trips to different growers and you could never hide you smile when you talked about them. We would spend hours at a time in house 6 looking at hostas, you pointing and me picking them up, looking for the tag to a variety you forgot you had and of course the sheer excitement you had when we rediscovered really gorgeous ones. I am going to miss Friday probably most of all. You would come home, park you truck next to the tool shed, hop out carrying your thermos and blue lunch box ( filled with candy bars I am sure) and we would go into the house for a quick ice cream break and discuss our plan for loading trucks for the rest of the night. We would finish either pulling baskets of annuals, or throwing perennials onto the trucks....and of course you always gave me the look of did you pack the whole farm?! What are we going to do with all of this stuff??? But then of course you would always add more. Picking watermelons was always a good time as well. You loved being out there finding monster watermelons and then throwing them at us to watch us struggle to catch it without dropping it. I have spent more Friday nights on that farm than anywhere else. It was my second home since age 12. You taught me how to work, everything I know about plants, how to correctly count back change, how to be a great sales person, how to treat your customers, and so much more. I am so thankful to you and aunt Wilma for giving me so many opportunities even when I didn't even deserve it. I respected you so much and would do anything for you guys. You were my second Dad and I will miss you so much Uncle Tim. I know I promised you after your first surgery that you would be back on your tractor tilling up the fields in no time. I really thought that you would...I thought that since I lost my Dad at such a young age no way God would take my second Dad from me, but sometimes life doesn't turn out the way we want it. I wish I could of told you everything I wanted to say to you Thursday night but I couldn't, it was just to damn hard to find the words and I was just to broken. But we will all take care of the farm and Aunt Wilma. I am really going to miss you Boss man, you put up one hell of a fight, and now you can finally be a peace. Good bye Uncle Tim.

Tim was a friend throughout our school years.  He was always laughing and joking.  When he married into our second family, the Van Dis family, he became family, too.  I haven't seen him in many years since I moved to Colorado but I knew Tim and Wilma had a loving home and they were very blessed.  Much love and sympathy to Wilma, the kids and grandkids, as well as the extended family as well. Tim will be greatly missed.

He was so eager to share his hosta knowledge with me, a "hostaholic."  I have the utmost respect for his wisdom and hosta experience.  I may have only talked with him on two occasions, but i felt like a long-time friend of Tim and Wilma's.  Godspeed, my friend, to the Greatest Garden ever.....I will help you dig when I arrive.
