WILTERDINK, Virginia Mae 3/31/31 - 10/23/20, age 89, died on October 23, 2020 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Virginia is survived by her sons Dale (Dawne) Wilterdink, Doug (Jill) Wilterdink; daughters Jana (Ken) Cheadle and Judy (Jerry) Taylor; as well as 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara VanBuren (Frank) and Margaret Simpson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Murl Arthur (12/31/17).
Born on March 31, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to parents Elton and Esther (Liesveld) Simpson, Virginia graduated from Central High School in 1949, and Western Michigan University in 1953. She then began teaching elementary education in various Michigan public school systems, including Mona Shores, Kentwood, and Grand Haven. Virginia retired in 1990 after more than 30 years of teaching.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandparent, displaying photos of all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren with pride and joy. Virginia was intelligent, well-read and enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. She was known for her wonderful gardens, love of birds, and delicious strawberry jam!
Virginia enjoyed fellowship with her friends and family at Celebration Bible Church in Grandville, Michigan. Pastor Jim Shemaria was always a ray of light and support, not only for Virginia but for the entire family.
Due to Covid, an immediate family only memorial will take place. The family would like to thank the staff at Azpira Place of Breton for the many years of wonderful care for both Virginia and Murl. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice of Michigan or Celebration Bible Church, Grandville, Michigan.
