KRUIS - Walter Kruis joined the heavenly choir on New Years Day, 2001 after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for the past few years. Walter was born near Jamestown, Michigan on December 8, 1914, the 5th of 12 children and lived in the area his entire life. Mr. Kruis was married for 56 years to Jo Punt, who survives him. Together they raised five children, Mary Jo Dennis Schaaf, Jim Devi Kruis, Dave Pam Kruis, Steve Colleen Kruis, and Esther Scott Brower. Walter is survived by 16 grandchildren, and predeceased by one grandson. Also surviving are four sisters; two brothers; special longtime friends, Al and Chris Apol; and several nieces and nephews. Walter loved life, people, and loved God. His patriotism was evident in service during WWII and also in his involvement with politics. Most of his life he was a barber, an occupation he enjoyed because of the interaction with customers from all walks of life. Walt loved playing practical jokes on people and had a wonderful sense of humor. Building his own home on Golden Street in Wyoming was a dream come true. His hard work in his yard and garden were evident to all that saw it. Walt always enjoyed traveling, and family vacations were a priority for him. Mr. Kruis’ first priority was always showing gratitude to God through service as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and Elder, at both Wyoming Park CRC and Calvary CRC, which he helped establish. We, his family and friends, will miss him, but rejoice in knowing that he is home with his Savior. A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Sunset Manor, 725 Baldwin St. in Jenison, with Pastor Allan Jongsma of Cottonwood Heights Church officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. The family will meet relatives and friends Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Cook Funeral Home west building, 4235 Prairie St. SW, in Grandville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Reformed World relief Committee. Those unable to attend the visitation or funeral service may sign the family’s Memory Book at www.cookfuneralhome.com.
