

Bill was born in Battle Creek, graduated from Albion College and obtained his master's degree from the University of Michigan. Bill was formerly CFO of Michigan Wheel Corporation and a CPA for many Grand Rapids businesses and individuals until his death. As an avid Bridge player he enjoyed the competitive nature of the game and the camaraderie, earning the ranking of Life Master. He served on the board of directors for unit board #195 of the Bridge Club of Grand Rapids and was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and District 12. Bill loved to work crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He enjoyed watching U of M football and was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports. Bill was preceded in death by his wives, Cecelia J Shafer and Joyce Rahn-Shafer.
Surviving are his children Susan Giberson, Laurie Markle and Mary Kim Herndon; son-in-law Steve Markle; grandchildren, Ryan, Sean and Trey Markle, Stephanie, John and Megan Giberson; granddaughter-in-law Amy Schiefer Markle; great-grandchildren, Cayden and Emerson Markle; and girl friend, Rita O'Neill-Wiseman. Bill is also survived by his sisters; Marion Hewetson and Edna Mae Rieger; brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and all of his wonderful friends.
In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. A private service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
