William Ver Strat

He was preceded in death by siblings Melvin Ver Strat, David Ver Strat, and Velma Dreher.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; children Scott (Diana) Ver Strat and Sandra (Bill) Howard; grandchildren Matt (Becca) Ver Strat, Rey Ver Strat, and Paige Howard; great-grandchildren Aiden, Dominic, Ashton, and Athyn; sister, Florence Thatcher; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

William proudly served his country in the United States Army. He had a great love for boating and built many model ships. He was an accomplished home builder and carpenter, and was well known for his love of cherry pies. A special thanks go out to William’s grandson, Rey, who was instrumental in his care in William’s final months.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Trinity Congregational Church, 2725 4 Mile Rd., NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49544, with visitation one hour prior to the service at church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Congregational Church - Youth Ministry.
