Wilma Haaksma Silvis, age 87, entered her heavenly home, surrounded by her children, Saturday, January 29, 2022. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Haaksma; and her son, Terry Haaksma. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Nancy (Roger) Haynes, Shirley (David) Lawson, Al Haaksma, daughter-in-law, Robin (Terry) Haaksma; grandchildren Katrina, Heidi, and Megan Haaksma; siblings Martin (Cathy) Huizinga, Ann Kornoeltje, John Huizinga, Adrianna (Bill) Tippitt, and Grace Van Kampen; many nieces, nephews, friends; step-grandchildren Naomi Washburn and David (Julia) Lawson; and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was born March 4, 1934, in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands. She and her family emigrated to the United States in 1952. She became an American citizen in 1960. Wilma loved spending time with her family, weekly lunches with her siblings, reading, sewing, and singing.
Cremation has already taken place. A private graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022. Visitation with friends and relatives will follow at 3 p.m. at Cook Memorial Chapel (East building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418, with a celebration of Wilma’s life taking place at 3:45 p.m. In memory of Wilma, contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
