Avelina Vasquez Coriell died in her home on March 31, 2021.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am, Tuesday April 27th at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Fr. Karl Schray presiding. Chapel of the Valley - L.B. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Farm Workers or Maryknoll Missionaries.
She was born on September 21, 1930, in Los Angeles to Angela Casillas and Juan Vasquez. She attended the Polytechnic High school in Los Angeles and later graduated from Secretarial school where she went on to work for the textile industry. From 1970, she worked for Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers in Arizona and California for 9 years.
On September 18, 1970 in Tolleson, Arizona she married Robert Coriell, who precedes her in death. She and her husband retired in Grants Pass, where she earned an associates degree at Rogue Community College and volunteered for many causes including Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross and was a college tutor (ESL). She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and scrabble.
She is survived by her daughters Lenora Lujan of Whittier, Calif.; Carol Coriell of Bakersfield, Calif; Jessica Price of Kerrville, Tex. as well as her son, Lee Coriell of Eugene; two sisters, Evangeline Vasquez and Rose Figueroa and brother Alex Vasquez; nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Five brothers and sisters, Minnie Vasquez, Efren Vasquez, Ross Vasquez, Faye Torres and Dora Ramirez preceded her in death.
