With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Erika Luise Gellert, who left this world on February 18, 2025, at the age of 91. Erika was born on December 26, 1933, in Braunsbach, Germany. At just 19 years old, she courageously immigrated to America in search of a better life, carrying with her resilience, determination, and an unwavering spirit for whatever life would bring.
In 1957, she married her beloved husband, Dieter Gellert, in Cook County, Illinois. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised two daughters, Susanne Clayton and Karen Gellert. Erika’s devotion to her family was unwavering, and she found immense joy in being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dieter preceded her in death, but their love and legacy continue to shine through their family.
She built a career in data management working for various companies, including Lockheed Martin, where she received an award for managerial excellence. Outside of work, Erika found happiness in gardening, surrounding herself with vibrant flowers that reflected her bright and lively spirit. She also had a passion for travel, especially to tropical destinations, where she embraced the beauty of the world with excitement and adventure.
Erika spent her final years in Medford, Oregon, cherishing time with her family. She is survived by her loving daughters, Susanne Clayton and Karen Gellert; her son-in-law, Steve Clayton; her granddaughter, Chrystal Guyette; grandson-in-law Brian Guyette; and her adored great-grandchildren, Gavin, Garrett, and Gracelyn Guyette.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her strength, warmth, and the love she shared with those around her.
A private family gathering will be held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant something beautiful in her memory, as she so loved to do.
