With profound sadness we announce the passing of Janis Ruth Snyder Meek on May 13, 2023, our dearly beloved grandmother, mother, wife, sister, and friend to all whose lives she touched. She left us while all her loved ones gathered around her bedside. She enjoyed an amazing 91 years.
Born on June 27, 1931, in Denver, Colorado, she was the only daughter of Harold and Ruth Snyder. Early on, Janis developed a passion for music, and it was at Grubbs Music Studio that she began learning to play piano when she was 12 years old. It was through her strict tutelage from Mrs. Grubbs that she became an accomplished pianist. Janis also attended Denver University, studying classical piano and music theory. After her schooling she became a piano instructor, teaching and touching the lives of many youths. It was through her brother Bill that she met the love of her life, Russell Meek and married him on his return from Korea-July 16, 1955. Through Colonel Meeks military career, they went on to travel the world, wherever the military placed them, experiencing lots of adventures and making many life-long friends! They shared a magical 67 years of love with one another!
She lived a full life as a devout woman of Christian Science and was loved by all who knew her and were lucky enough to experience her unconditional love, as well as her passion for God and spiritual healing. She was a woman of many talents; one of her favorite hobbies was gardening and she definitely had a green thumb! Most of all Jan loved her family and friends, and she showed her affection through her caring, kind-hearted, self-less spirit. She leaves behind her devoted husband Russell Meek, her two daughters Vickie and Valerie, her five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Janis will be deeply missed and will remain forever in our hearts and memories.
