John William Lockhart, Sr., 82, of Grants Pass, Oregon went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, March 12, 2018. John was born April 1, 1935 in Cincinnati, OH and was the youngest of seven children born to Jesse Harold Lockhart and Nettie Josephine (Hubbard) Lockhart.
John joined the navy, at age 17, and served as a Gunner's Mate Petty Officer Second Class on the USS Quincy CA-71 during the Korean War. While on liberty, John met his lifetime sweetheart, Gloria Carol Sayce in Seaside, Oregon. They were married July 3, 1954 in Olympia, Washington.
After an honorable discharge from the navy, John worked as a machinist at Loud Machine Works in Pomona, California. He later retired from Northrop Corp. where he machined parts for all 21 B-2 Stealth Bombers. After retiring, John and his wife, Gloria moved to Grants Pass. He enjoyed woodworking, drawing, writing, traveling and regular coffee and donuts with friends.
John was a member of Central Baptist Church in Pomona, Calif., then later attended Faith Baptist Church in Grants Pass. John was passionate about his faith and sharing with others about Jesus Christ. He read his Bible and prayed for each of his children and grandchildren daily. In 2005, John and his wife had the opportunity to visit Israel with an organization called “The Friends of Israel”. Upon his returned, he wrote a book called “Iran: Israel Under Siege/The Refiner’s Fire”.
John is Survived by his wife, Gloria Carol (Sayce) Lockhart; a daughter, Dr. Terrie Lynn Naramor (Daniel); a son John William Lockhart, Jr. (Chressa); a daughter Shirley Kay Law (Steven); 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and his little dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Lockhart, mother, Nettie Lockhart, two sisters, Dorothea Hopewell and Shirley Lockhart, three brothers, Jesse, Orville, and Robert Lockhart. Their surviving sibling, Lena Robles, passed six days after John.
Viewing will be held at Chapel of the Valley, Grants Pass, Oregon, on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 9:00 am. The memorial service will begin at 10:30 am. A military procession and private interment will be for immediate family only at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
