Larry Ronald Chasteen

Larry Ronald Chasteen, loving husband, father and grandfather died September 10th, 2020 at Royale Gardens Rehabilitation and Care facility in Grants Pass, OR. Larry was born on July 21st, 1939 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Rolla B. and Martha L. Chasteen. They moved to Sacramento, CA in 1944 and he graduated from Grant Union High School in 1958. He married Sidney Smith on June 23rd, 1963 in Sacramento, CA, and they had two children, Ronald Mark and Tamara Lynn. He joined the Air Force in 1961 where he spent 21 ½ years. He served overseas in Okinawa, Japan and Ramstein, Germany. After retiring in 1983 in Warrensburg, Missouri, he attended Central Missouri State University, graduating in 1988 with a degree in Recreation. Larry and Sidney moved back to Sacramento in 1988 to care for his father. In 1992, they moved back to Potosi, Missouri, where Larry became a Youth and Recreation Director at Potosi Southern Baptist Church. He was licensed to preach at Maplewood Baptist Church in St. Louis and was a supply preacher until they moved to Grants Pass to take care of Sidney’s parents in 2004. Larry was ordained to preach at Dayspring Baptist Church where he supply preached and he preached for two years at a mission church. Larry loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he loved people, wanting them to know Jesus also. Survivors include his wife Sidney, daughter Tamara DeLoffi (Chris) of Elk Grove, CA, grandchildren Mark Chasteen (Addison) of St. Louis, MO, Kevin Chasteen of Roanoke, TX, Sam DeLoffi & Libby DeLoffi of Elk Grove, CA and daughter-in-law Kim Mason of Paris MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Ronald. There was a memorial service for Larry at Solid Rock Church, Saturday, September 12th, 2020 with military salute and presentation of the flag to the family. He will be interned at the national cemetery in Eagle Point, OR. Contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Larry.
