Ray S. Bruton, 98, of Grants Pass, died on Sunday, February 8, 2015. No memorial services are planned. Contributions may be made to Special Olympics. Chapel of the Valley L.B. Hall Funeral home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. Ray was born to Clyde and Mary Bruton on January 8, 1917, in Tupelo, Miss. The family moved to Culver City, Calif. then to Palo Alto, Calif., where Ray attended Sequoia High School in Redwood City. Following high school he traveled around the world, and spoke of his travels at San Quentin Prison and other public venues. He entered San Jose State College and was on a championship boxing team. He met Marceile McBride there, and they married in 1940 in Monterey, Calif. Ray served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was discharged with the rank of LTJG. He was a member of the Elks Club for 68 years. Ray made his living in the trucking industry and retired as Vice President and General Manager of Operations for Miles & Sons Trucking. He was an avid fisherman and boater on the Rogue River for 20 years of his retirement. Ray is survived by two sons, Timothy Bruton of Grants Pass, and Terence Bruton of Shingletown, Calif.
