Born on June 12, 1953, in Oakland, California, Rick was a lifelong student of sound. After attending College Park High School and Diablo Valley College, he turned his passion into a prolific career as a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer. He co-founded The Henry Brothers with his brothers, Ralph and Scott. The trio’s chemistry was undeniable early on; in 1974, they won the Contra Costa County Battle of the Bands (1st Place, Rock Opera). They continued performing together in their bands The Shooz and AirWave.
Rick’s musical legacy is perhaps best defined by his time as the bassist and backing vocalist for the hard rock band Work Force, where he performed once again alongside his brothers. A powerhouse of creative energy formed in the late 80s, the band released music on Scotti Bros. Records. Rick was not only the band's rhythmic anchor on bass but also the architect of their sound, serving as their primary recording engineer.
His technical ear made him a sought-after figure in the industry. Rick and his brothers co-owned R.O. Studios in Concord, California, where Rick helped shape the sound of Bay Area rock royalty. His engineering credits include sessions for legends such as Journey, Ronnie Montrose, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana, and his friend, Eddie Money.
In his later years, Rick and his brothers moved to Southern Oregon, where they continued to play music frequently. While music was his craft, his foundation was his unwavering faith. A devout Christian, he drew strength and purpose from his relationship with God and Jesus Christ, always striving to bring his family and friends closer to The Lord.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Henry Sr. and Genevieve Henry. He is survived by his beloved son, RJ Henry; daughters, Angela Henry and Rose Greven; beloved brothers, Ralph Henry and Scott Henry; and sister, Jennie Huffman. Rick leaves behind a legacy of music that will continue to resonate, and a circle of family and friends who will cherish his memory.
