Sondriah was born on November 17, 1949, in Spencer, Iowa, where she grew up on a farm. When she was seven years old, her family moved to Whittier, California. She was raised by her loving parents, Gladys and Ben. Later in life, she married Robert and moved to Oregon, where they raised their family.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Don and Darlene, Marilyn and brother-in-law Bill. Sondriah is survived by her sisters Carolyn, Diane, and Joyce; Robert; her beloved children, Shawn and Kristal; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was a deeply loving and devoted mother who cherished her children above all else.
Sondriah dedicated her life to shaping young minds and inspiring a love of learning. She earned her master’s degree and devoted her career to education, serving as a kindergarten teacher, Title I teacher, and elementary school principal. She believed deeply in giving children unconditional support, love, and open communication, and her impact continues through the many lives she touched.
In her earlier years, Sondriah found joy in macramé, stained glass, refinishing antique furniture, and gardening. After retiring, she embraced life with a renewed sense of adventure, traveling to Hawaii and Portugal, creating spiritual paintings, and walking along the beach whenever she could. She loved birds and spent many peaceful hours feeding them and simply watching them. In her later life, she became a free spirit—exploring new experiences, practicing energy work, and helping many people through healing and release. She lived fully, with curiosity, laughter, and an open heart.
Sondriah touched countless lives through her kindness, wisdom, and laughter. Those who knew her carry her spirit with them and are grateful for the many paths she walked alongside them.
Sondriah has chosen cremation. A celebration of life will be held in her honor this spring, when her ashes will be spread in the same place as her sister Marilyn’s. Further details will be shared as the time approaches. All are welcome to attend in any way they are able.
Thank you for your love and support.
