June 30, 1978 – December 9, 2021
Carrie Tyson fought a valiant battle with cancer and grew her pair of angel wings on December 9, 2021, surrounded by family and friends. Carrie was an independent, brave, and strong woman who fiercely loved her girls, husband, and family. Her friends describe her as funny, creative, dependable, strong, sassy, caring, and loyal.
Carrie was an educator for over 21 years who worked in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Lewisville ISD, and ended her career in Northwest ISD. She taught children with behavior issues for three years then became and educational diagnostician after receiving her master’s degree in special education from Texas Woman’s University. As an educator she mentored many diagnosticians as they began their careers. Carrie’s coworkers describe her as efficient, compassionate, kid oriented, who went above and beyond for the students, staff, and families. She was an advocate for all!
Carrie took leadership roles as her girls traveled the country playing club soccer and she never missed a game! She encouraged them to be good team members, work hard, do their best, and never quit. She has modeled and expected many exemplary characteristics that will carry them far in life. She shared this love for sports with her husband, Kevin.
Carrie was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in Trophy Club attending the NISD schools. She went on to get a bachelor’s degree in education from University of North Texas and a master’s degree in special education from Texas Woman’s University. Coming back as an educator in NISD was a dream come true for her. She watched her girls closely!
Kevin, Carrie, and all five girls loved to be on the lake in the boat. Many hours were consumed surfing behind the boat or pulling kids so fast they fell off the tube. The lake was her happy place.
Carrie is survived by her husband Kevin, five children, Raegan, Samantha and Mallory, Chloe and Sophia, parents, Debbie and Gerald Johnson, brother, Aaron Johnson, sister in law, Lorri Kitchens (Lance), brother in law, Jeff Tyson, aunts, Carole Johnson, Sherry Bowers, and Cindy Fulton (Tom), nieces, Sloane and Eleanor Johnson, Ashleigh Kitchens, nephew, Gavin Kitchens, cousins, Benj (Marcella), Erika Fulton, Courtney Ryon (James), Marcie Hasty (Chris), and of course her beloved dogs, Lily Mama and Trooper and a cat named Ivy Bean.
