Charles Dean Thompson passed away on December 6th, 2025, at his home in Argyle, Texas, at the age of 90! Dean will be remembered as a man of “unwavering love and dedication to his Family, strong work ethic, and his Faith in God”.
He was born on May 23, 1935, in Marion, Ohio to Clearence Arthur Thompson and Gladys Simmons Thompson. His family later moved to Long Beach, California where Dean graduated from Wilson High School.
He met and married the love of his life, Wilma Edwina Thompson, affectionately known as “Grandma” or Eddie”-on October 26, 1962. Together they began their life in Downy California, before moving their family to Colleyville, Texas in 1979. After retirement he and his wife settled in Argyle Texas. They shared 50 wonderful years, until Eddie’s passing on December 12, 2017.
Dean devoted 33 years of his career to the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company’s corporate office in California from 1962 till 1979. Later, he owned and managed a Firestone Store in Dallas, Texas until his retirement.
Dean was a devout member of Cross Timbers Church in Argyle for many years. He faithfully volunteered and participated in all aspects of church life. His faith was evident in everything he did, including the baptism of a grandchild and blessings of his great- grandchildren. He was a true patriarch of the Thompson family and a living example of steadfast faith.
Dean was best known simply as “Grandpa” by friends and family. He is survived by his sister, Anita Butcher; his children and their spouses: Mike and Sherrie Thompson, Bob and Zoe Thompson, Maryanne and Larry Thomas; his grandchildren and spouses: Chris and Kim Thompson, Matt and Jen Thompson, Lorie and Zach Shepherd, Morgan and Dylan Jourdan; and his eight great-grandchildren: Addison Thompson, Emmett Thompson, Samual Thompson, Elliott Thompson, Beckham Jourdan, Hayes Shepherd, Landry Shepherd and Camden Jourdan. Grandpa LOVED attending every activity, celebration and milestone in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was especially proud of his children. His sons, Mike and Bob, are both retired Fire Captains with the Grapevine Fire Department, each of whom gave 35 years of dedicated service. Also, his daughter, Maryanne, who gave 20 plus years in Education as a teacher.
Dean was deeply loved by friends, teammates, and extended family. He had many “surrogate” children and grandchildren and truly knew no strangers. He was prayerful, intelligent, sensitive, kind, talkative, funny and always willing to give what he had to anyone in need. He will be profoundly missed by many.
His family finds peace knowing that Dean is now reunited with his two great loves- his beloved Eddie and his Lord.
