Claudia (Ruth) Higgins Trahan, age 64, of Calico Rock, Arkansas and Cairo, Egypt passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018. She was born in Houston, TX on July 2, 1954 to the late Stanley and Ruth Higgins. She graduated from Alvin High School in 1972 and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from The University of Texas at Austin in 1976. She received her Master’s Degree in Reading from Arkansas State University in the late-90s while teaching Kindergarten full-time and raising her family. She was married to Keith Trahan on May 14, 1977. Keith and Claudia celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary this spring with dinner on the Nile River.
Claudia’s greatest passion was education. For over 30 years Claudia impacted both students and teachers in her roles as elementary and middle school teacher, Education Service Center trainer, Reading Specialist, assistant principal and principal. Her other hobbies and interests included gardening, reading, fishing, studying the Bible, traveling and spending time with her family. Throughout their marriage, Keith and Claudia lived in five different countries around the world and visited nearly 20 countries spanning five continents. She was an adventurer and truly up for anything!
Claudia is survived by her husband Keith; her son Bryan and her daughter-in-law Sarah; her daughter Erin and her son-in-law Joe; her grandson Colin; her sisters Paula, Brenda and Rhonda and a number of other living relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Foust & Sons Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Please make any donations to ASPCA International in honor of Claudia, who adopted two dogs and three cats while living internationally.
