OBITUARY

Dava "Mom" Lee Disney

Play Tribute Movie

Dava was born Oct 1, 1953 in Victoria, Texas. Fun-loving and free spirited, she was the first of four children to her parents, David Myron Eknes and Carole (Karnowski) Eknes. Her father was a colonel in the Air Force, so they moved around for most of her childhood, even living abroad at various times. Dava was said to always be the rule-following first born. One of her favorite stories was when she was a teenager, and her friends were hanging out after dark and a neighbor came outside and yelled "what are you doing!?" All the kids scattered, and the neighbor yelled "stop!" Of course all the other kids kept running, and Dava stopped! She was a very obedient child. She met her husband, Lester Disney, whose father was also in the Air Force when she was 16 years old, and he was 15. They married 4 years later at 19 and 20. She worked at Olan Mills and had a "hot rod" red sports car and was nick-named "Mach 1 Mama." She loved to play tennis, dance to Tina Turner and was a jazzercise QUEEN!

Lester and Dava had 3 children, Davina, Katrina, and Lester. They wanted more, but decided 3 was enough. They moved to Trophy Club, TX in 1987 and have remained ever since.

Dava was a beloved wife, sister, mother, Oma, and friend. She truly brought light and happiness to any occasion. She was very sweet and her kids often teased her for crying and getting emotional at the drop of a hat. She was very social and loved to chat away with anyone, even strangers in the grocery store. She led a long and distinguished career at IBM as an inside sales rep for Government contracts and was beloved by all of her customers and co-workers. She retired in June of 2020, just 5 months before her passing. She loved to have sleepovers and watch movies with her two grandchildren, Emma Jane and Rowan Koger. She loved to sneak them treats that their mother didn't know about. She was always there when her family needed her, for big and small things. She was tough and strong and never complained. She was an indefatigable optimist. Her loss left a hole in the hearts of many. May we always continue to reminisce on her life and the joy she brought to this world.

She is survived by her husband, Lester Disney, a sister, Jody Melby, a brother, Dan Eknes, 3 children, Davina James, Katrina Koger, and Lester W Disney, and 2 grandchildren, Emma and Rowan Koger, and a cat, who misses her terribly, Dude.

My deepest condolences to the Disney Family. I’m so sad to hear this news of Dava’s passing. My friend Chance and I would join Davina on Sunday’s to watch the Cowboys game years ago, and Dava was always a perfect host! She served awesome appetizers and always had the bar fully stocked. I was kinda shocked I would have such a good time hanging out with my friends parents but we really did! She was an enthusiastic Cowboy fan and would have the game on in the kitchen and the living room so as not to miss a play. My heart goes out to the Disney family as I’m sure this leaves a huge hole in their heart. Your mom was a wonderful bright ray of sunshine and always kind, hospitable, and welcoming whenever we would visit. I’ll always think of her whenever I see a panda bear, as I recall being taken aback by all the panda decor in the house the first time I visited. I’m so sorry for your loss and will keep praying that you find peace in during this tremendous loss.

My condolences to the family of Dava Disney. I worked with Dava at IBM. She was a wonderful, hardworking and dedicated person. She was very knowledgeable and always willing to help and give advice. She was often smiling and always seemed happy. I miss walking by her desk and seeing the familiar panda bear collection. I will miss her and I know I am not the only one.
To her family, I am so sorry for your loss. I am praying for all of you. Praying for God's mercy, comfort and strength at this time.

Hello, Disney Family. First we want to say our heartfelt condolences to you all over your loss. Dava was a sweet, kind hearted person. I was blessed by her presence at IBM, and she was always one who was willing to help in any situation.. at a drop of a hat. Full of knowledge about the IBM business that she handled, and never holding back -- always wanting to share her knowledge. I loved her work space with all of the beloved pandas.. smile. And some of the most precious memories are when her daughter and granddaughter would show up at the office to take her to lunch; or when hubby Lester would show up -- just because... smile. And oh, how we loved sharing the beautiful red roses that would show up on her desk every year during Valentine .. oh what a love. Dava, you will forever be missed, but not forgotten. Sincerely, Bill and Pat Smith.

Dava was so sweet and had a smile on her face every time I saw her. Dava and Lester were kind enough to let Bryan and I join them tailgating at the Jimmy Buffett concerts. Those were fun times and great memories. She is dearly missed. We’re keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers 💗

Dava was an incredibly sweet person and anytime I see a Panda bear I think of her. She was one of the last people I talked to when I was still employed at IBM before I left the company. We were talking about how so many of spent 15+ years together and how it's like a family moving on with everyone going separate ways. I looked over the wonderful pictures and what stood out to me is that she was hugging and smiling in ALL of them and it is so clear how much she loved and was loved by her husband, children, grandchildren. She was loved at IBM too. You can't ask for more than that too, right? That is the ONE thing we can take with us. She will be missed for sure. My sincerest wishes that the upcoming holiday season and years to follow are filled with fun and loving memories as you all find the strength to heal together. - Rachael Boucher
