Dorothy Eileen Jarzynka

Dorothy was born on November 23, 1937, in Buffalo County, Nebraska, to Joseph and Blanche Hervert. She graduated from Ravenna High School in Ravenna, Nebraska, and went on to earn an associate degree and teaching certificate. She began her career as a schoolteacher before dedicating herself to what she considered her greatest calling: being a mother and raising her six children.

Dorothy was a woman of strong faith, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a steady presence in the lives of those she loved. She was known for her quick wit, her strong personality, and her ability to keep her beloved husband, Joe, in line. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Her Catholic faith was an important part of Dorothy’s life. She was a longtime and deeply involved member of St. Francis Catholic Church, where she participated in GriefShare and several church small groups. She was among the parish’s longest-tenured members and cherished the friendships and fellowship she found within her church community.

Dorothy had many interests that brought her joy. She loved sewing, family genealogy, playing bridge, listening to audiobooks, scrapbooking, and, of course, shopping, especially on Black Friday. She had a particular fondness for shoes and enjoyed attending church events and spending time with family. Her favorite meals included pork chops with sauerkraut, a simple comfort that no doubt carried a taste of home and tradition.

Dorothy’s greatest legacy, however, is the family she leaves behind.

She is survived by her children, Tom (Melinda) Jarzynka of Geneva, Florida; Mary Jo (Greg) Vogel of Spring, Texas; David (Mary/Fran) Jarzynka of Euless, Texas; Theresa (Bryan) Bohannan of Bedford, Texas; and Denise (Brad) Marshall of Elgin, Texas; Siblings Ron Hervert of Ravenna, Nebraska and Norma Deveny of Kansas City, Missouri; Grandchildren Jakob Jarzynka, Jason Vogel, James Bruno, Andrew Bruno, Kayla Hagen, Kristina Calderon, David Jarzynka Jr., Paige Marshall, Brooke Bohannan, Morgan Osborn, Holly Van Coevering, Hailey Spurgeon, Scott Bohannan, Emily Kuehnle, Nicholas Marshall; and 13 great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory forward for generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Blanche Hervert; her husband, Joe Jarzynka; her daughter, Barbara Ann Jarzynka Cornish; and her grandson, Zachary Jarzynka.

Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, her strength of character, and the many little things that made her unmistakably Dorothy. Her family and friends will carry her memory with them in the stories they tell, the traditions they continue, and the love she gave so freely throughout her life.

A Rosary will be held at JE Foust and Son Funeral Directors, 523 S. Main St, Grapevine, TX 76051, on August 16, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 3:20 pm, during the Visitation at the same location from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Francis of Assisi, 861 Wildwood Ln, Grapevine, TX 76051, on August 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with Committal to follow at Grapevine Cemetery, 1114 N Dooley St, Grapevine, TX 76051, US, on August 17, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
