Evelyn, age 95, joined her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Evelyn Lucille Woodson was born January 6, 1925 and grew up in White County, Arkansas along with her 8 siblings. Her first job was working in an ice cream parlor, where she met Orlando "Doc" Miller while he was on military leave. They fell in love and married in 1944 and they moved to Irving, Texas for job opportunities and to raise their family. Evelyn became a widow after 32 years of marriage, when Doc died in 1976.
She later remarried. The couple enjoyed traveling the world and spending time on Lake Texoma. Evelyn and Bill Cody were married for 18 years when he died of cancer. She was a doting caretaker to him in his declining health.
Evelyn retired from Trinity Universal Insurance Company after thirty-one years of service. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She started painting at the age of 50 and was very talented. Evelyn was known for cooking certain dishes including family favorites: chicken and dumplings, peanut butter fudge, and chocolate pie. She enjoyed the Arkansas Razorbacks. She was a member of White’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Evelyn adapted to today’s technology and enjoyed texting on her iPhone, playing games and viewing Facebook posts on her iPad.
Family was very important to Evelyn. The Woodsons had a lot of family traditions. They were always together – Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and every Mother’s Day at Burns Park in Little Rock, Arkansas. Even though Evelyn and her family moved to Texas, she continued to attend many of the holiday gatherings especially the Mother’s Day Reunion.
Evelyn truly cherished her time with her children and their families, whether that was at family holidays or events or a quick weekday lunch at El Fenix. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Evelyn enjoyed Rick’s humor, his updates on Paradise and his frequent calls to learn more about her life story. She played basketball in high school and at the age of 90, Evelyn made a basket while playing with grandsons, Thomas and Grady. During this COVID environment, Harper brought cheer to Evelyn with dances outside her window and artwork for her room.
