George was born in New York City, New York, to George and Anne Maher on September 4, 1946. He attended Long Island University C.W. Post College and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He enjoyed a successful career as a sales executive, retiring in the year 2000 after over 20 years with ADP, where he was Executive Vice President. George met and married Elizabeth Barrett Gray and together they had three children. He was a devoted husband and father.
George was an avid golfer, antiquarian book collector, a voracious reader, lover of coffee, investor and a fan of KU Basketball and NCAA Basketball. Above all, his wife and children were his greatest joy.
George’s memory lives on in his three children- Erin Montgomery (Ryan Montgomery) of Grapevine, TX, Peter Maher (Brianna Dean) of Golden, CO, and Christopher Maher of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren- Conor Montgomery and Finn Montgomery; niece Meghan Mayko (Jeff Mayko) of Jacksonville, NC; nephews Michael McCarthy (Diane) of Shrewsbury, NJ, Mark McCarthy (Stephanie) of Rumson, NJ, and Matthew McCarthy (Susan) of Rumson, NJ. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth “Barrie” Maher, sister Ellen McCarthy, and parents George and Anne Maher.
