Obituary of Gloria Zúñiga y Postigo Ph.D.
Gloria was born in 1968 in Arequipa, Peru. In 1986, she moved to the United States where her sister and three brothers were already living. Gloria attended college at California State University East Bay for her Bachelor’s degree, and to complete Master’s work in business economics. She earned her PhD in Philosophy from the University at Buffalo, New York, and then completed a post-doc in social and political philosophy at the Acton Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Gloria began her teaching career at Grand Valley State University in Michigan in the early 2000s. She began her long career with Ashford University in 2009, first with the College of Liberal Arts, then switching to DOGE. At the end of 2019 she joined the PhD program in Organizational Development and Leadership as the program’s first Core Faculty member. She was primarily responsible for the doctoral course in business and professional ethics, taught doctoral In Residence courses, and served on dissertation and ADP committees as well. She was instrumental in helping to build the program over her short tenure notably in working to strengthen teaching practices among Associate Faculty. Gloria met her husband, Jacob Arfwedson, in 1996 in Vienna; they subsequently were reunited in 2013 in Jacob’s home country of Sweden. Gloria and Jacob married in Paris, France in September 2014, and split their time between Brussels and Detroit. Gloria passed away on Wednesday, March 31. She is survived by her husband Jacob, her sister Lola, two brothers, Lucho and Gerardo, and three stepchildren, Anne-Sophie, Jonas, and Elias. A memorial service in Gloria’s honor will be held at 4PM, Thursday, May 13, 2021 at JE Foust and Son Funeral Chapel. Gloria’s remains will be reunited with those of her parents in Peru. We will miss her cheerful nature, her friendship, and her sound academic contributions. Rest in Peace, Gloria.
