James Grady Potter
September 3, 1934 – October 15, 2019
James Grady Potter was born September 3rd, 1934 and passed away October 15th , 2019. He was born in McAlester, Oklahoma to Ann Dassler Potter and John Potter. He lived his early formative years in Oklahoma and moved with his mother, sister, and stepfather, Robert Dunham, to California in his teens. He graduated from Bell Gardens High School, and served in the United States Air Force as a military policeman in Okinawa, Japan, and in the United States.
It was during his time in the military, while stationed at Carswell Airforce Base in Fort Worth, that he met Robbie Nell Anderson. They would marry and settle in Haltom City Texas, where they would raise their two daughters, Debra and Vickie. They were married 49 years and 10 months, until her death in 2008. It was after serving in the Air Force that he went to work at Bell Helicopter and worked there almost 40 years as an accountant, before retiring at age 62.
He spent his retirement doing what he loved, which was gardening. He loved planting vegetables and flowers, and became a certified Master Gardener. He also loved shopping for flowers, and making weekly trips to Sam's, watching the Dallas Cowboys, loving on his grandkids, Cassidee and Haley, and snuggling with his two chubby daschunds, Annie and Susie. He spent his retirement caring for his wife Robbie until she passed away in 2008. He will most be remembered for his smile and sense of humor. He loved to tell jokes, and to sing, even up until till the end of his life. He will also be remembered for lending a hand , and providing for family and friends in a time of need. James was a big, boisterous man, with a heart of gold. We will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his two daughters, Debra Allison and Vickie Hearn, a son-in-law, Alan Hearn, his sister, Shirley Pace, granddaughters, Cassidee Allison and Haley Hearn, sister- in- law, Jerrie Adams, and numerous nieces and nephews.
