Jean Sweeney Dula, 90 went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2019, at Meadowood Assisted Living, Grapevine, TX. She was born on January 6, 1929, in Houston TX to Russell and Lennie Sweeney. Jean grew up in Houston and graduated from Reagan High School in 1945.

Jean was the oldest of four children and the only girl. A very talented piano player, her dedication to practice entertained the whole neighborhood. Jean was so talented that she was accepted to the Juilliard School of Music; however, she ultimately chose to remain in her home state of Texas and attend Texas Christian University.

In 1946 Jean married Norman Dula, in Houston TX, and they were happily married for 69 years. Jean and Norm moved to Waco to raise their young family, and then in 1970 the family moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1991 Jean and Norm retired to Lakeway, TX. Jean loved, loved, loved to entertain and was a gifted cook, hosting many dinner parties for her friends. Smiles and laughter where a staple of the home. Jean was part of a circle of friends called the “Loosey Goosies”, where fun was the order of the day. Jean made lifelong friends with many, and she stayed in touch with these friends until the very end of her life.

Jean gave back to her community in a variety of ways, volunteering at the hospital, Treasurer of the Opera club, and President of the Lakeway Women’s Club to name a few.

As Jean advanced in years, she was always more concerned with the health and wellbeing of her family and friends over herself. Jean loved the caretakers at Meadowood and never failed to thank them for caring for her.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Norman Dula and parents Russell and Lennie Sweeney. Jean is survived by her sons Norman (Joanne) Dula, Jr. of Bedford, TX, Dan (Kristi) Dula of Bayfield Colorado, Doug (Sherry) Dula of Greensboro, North Carolina, brothers Pat Sweeney of Houston, Mike (Corrisue) Sweeney of San Antonio, and Jerry (Ya) Sweeney of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Also surviving are grandchildren Amy (Eric) Haynes, Jennifer (Rudy) MacDonel, Michael (Kate) Dula, Luke Dula, and Kennedy Dula along with great-grandchildren Addy, Ellis, Ethan, Liam, Clair, Rowan, Mia, and Connor.

Jean was a good friend for many years when she lived in Lakeway, Texas. We had a group of girlfriends called the “Loosey Goosies” and we did a lot of fun things together. Jean was a past president of our Women’s club here in Lakeway. She was an excellent bridge player and was also a member of the Sing Along group who put on 2 shows each year. I have many fond memories of Jean and Norm.
