Jerzy was born on June 30, 1948, in Szczecin, Poland. He worked as a mapmaker for the city of Szczecin but always dreamed of coming to the United States. Determined to pursue that dream, he became a sailor and fisherman, working aboard various ships and fishing vessels that took him throughout Europe, across the North Atlantic, and even to the waters off the Alaskan coastline. Though he missed his family in Poland, he continued searching for his place in the world.
During one of these voyages, Jerzy arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, where he chose to remain and begin building the life he had envisioned. While working at the Gillette headquarters in Boston, he met Isabel Costa in the company cafeteria. Their friendship blossomed into love, and they were married in 1998. Isabel encouraged Jerzy to pursue American citizenship, a goal he proudly achieved in Boston in 2011.
A hardworking and determined man, Jerzy later became a mason and spent many years working for D’Agostino of Newton, Massachusetts. He approached every task with ambition, persistence, and pride, always finishing what he started. He was known for his kindness toward others, his love of animals, and the enjoyment he found in taking walks with Isabel through Jamaica Plain.
Jerzy had a sweet tooth and a special fondness for traditional Polish foods. He especially enjoyed Polish pancakes, chocolate jelly cookies, crêpes, and szaszłyki. During visits to Poland, he always made time to enjoy his favorite meals and reconnect with cherished memories. Whether in Boston or Fort Worth, he would often say, “Poland is the best,” while proudly holding an American flag, a reflection of his deep love for both his homeland and his adopted country.
Jerzy was preceded in death by his mother Paulina Zdrojewska, his father Franciszek Zdrojewski, his former wife Jadwiga Zdrojewska (née Gwiżdż), and his brother Zygmunt Zdrojewski.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Isabel Costa; her sons, Angel Gonzalez and David Black; his daughter, Katarzyna Białkowska, and his son, Tomasz Zdrojewski; his grandchildren, Klaudia Białkowska, Sebastian Białkowski, Karolina Zdrojewska, and Natalia Zdrojewska; and his great-grandchildren, Dominik Gwizdek, Igor Białkowski, and Kornel Białkowski.
Jerzy’s journey took him across oceans and continents, but he will be remembered most for his determination, generosity, warmth, and the love he shared with family and friends. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held at J.E. Foust & Son Funeral Directors, 523 S Main St, Grapevine, TX 76051, US, on June 27, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
