Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Friend
Jesse Roberts passed away from this world on the 7th of May, in the year of 2025. He was from Roanoke, TX, and lived there for 21 years before moving to Dallas, TX in 1962. He became a resident of Lewisville, TX in 1970, where he lived for the last 55 years. Jesse was a proud veteran of the US Air Force where he served from 1959 to 1965. Jesse was a graduate of Justin Northwest High School, class of '59, and was active in helping with reunions, which he always looked forward to attending each time they were held. He stayed actively involved with his classmates, helping to share news about reunions, milestones, and memorials. Jesse was a star athlete in high school, being named All District in football and baseball both his junior and senior year. Jesse also loved slow pitch softball, having coached and played for the First United Methodist church team until it was time to coach his son in Little League baseball and football. He then went on to coach the first team from Lewisville to the state playoffs in baseball. Jesse always loved sharing his passions with his family, and his love of sports is no exception. Taking his son to the state championships in baseball and being the team dad for his daughter are some of the things that he remembered most fondly. He always loved being there cheering on his kids and grandkids at nearly every game. Whether it was football, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, or swimming, he was present, and his love and support was felt. His love of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers also certainly extended to his family as well.
Beyond being a family man, Jesse took great pride in working hard, being a loyal team member, and being a productive member of society. He was employed by Braniff International Airways in January of 1962 and took much delight in both the company and the friendships that he fostered through the years until the company closed on May 12, 1982. He always strived to keep in touch with his many friends from the Braniff days including Hostesses, Agents, Cargo men and a few Pilots, in addition to his friends from high school. After the closing of Braniff he was employed by Dixico Flexible Packaging for 10 years until they were sold and closed operations. He then moved to Knoxville, TN to take a position as Sales Manager for Tennessee Press, though after a little over a year they ceased operations and Jesse moved back to his beloved Texas. Jesse would then go to work for multiple places as an outside salesman, though they would cease operations or get rid of his position soon after. Jesse then went to work for James Wood auto dealership as a courtesy driver until his medical retirement in September of 2003. Jesse’s work ethic and loyalty were just more examples of the type of man he was, always showing up and giving his best efforts, not leaving when things got hard, but sticking around until each company he worked for closed.
Jesse will be buried at Parker Cemetery in Grapevine, TX and will be lying in state at Foust funeral home in Grapevine, TX. Jesse will be remembered by his wife, Sherry, the love of his life for 59 years; whom he met when she was a flight attendant at Braniff Airways. Jesse fell in love with her at first sight, a mere 2 weeks into her flight attendant career, and even told his old roommate that she would be his wife forever. He is survived by his two children: son Jeffrey Todd Roberts of Frisco, TX, and daughter Deanna Lynn Stuemke of Kailua, Hawaii. He will also be remembered by his ex daughter-in-law, Dr. Michelle Roberts of Frisco, TX, and his son-in-law, Jay Stuemke of Kailua, Hawaii and future daughter-in-law, Dorrie Bice of Aubrey, TX. He was also the cherished grandfather of Jackie Roberts, Jake Stuemke, Josh Roberts, Katie Stuemke, and Maddie Stuemke who all deeply adored him and saw him as an invaluable role model. He will be further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he regularly kept in touch with.
It has often been said that one never truly passes on until they cease to be remembered. In that sense, Jesse Roberts will continue to live on as a cherished grandfather, a beloved father, and an adoring husband for the decades to come.
