Jimmy Wayne Dixon passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2021 at the young age of 77. He was born in Dallas, Texas on August 19, 1943 to Connie and Edward Dixon, the second son of six children. Visitation: 4:30-6:30PM Monday, March 15 at JE Foust and Son Funeral Chapel. Funeral: 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 16, JE Foust and Son Funeral Chapel. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, Colleyville. He attended school at George Peabody, in Dallas, until the family moved to Grapevine, Texas in January 1949. He continued his education in Grapevine, graduating from Grapevine High School in 1961. A few years later, he met a girl in his neighborhood by the name of Lilly Maxine Bryce. They fell in love and were married in May, 17, 1968.
Jimmy was always a hard worker, starting his first job at the age of sixteen. Of the many jobs he held as a young man, the one that he absolutely loved was at the City Drug as a “Soda Jerk”. He took pride in making, among other things, chocolate malts, which remained his favorite for the rest of his life. Having a family to support, he decided that East Texas Motor Freight (ETMF) was a better opportunity so he and his family relocated to El Paso in 1975. After a couple of years he was able to return to the home town that he loved, Grapevine, in 1977. After Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) purchased ETMF in 1982 Jimmy decided to move on to Kroger where he retired in 2012 at the age of 68.
As a young man Jimmy was something of a vehicle enthusiast. He was known for his ability to build and restore almost anything, but it was a turquoise 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air he restored that was his pride and joy. He loved driving and working on his boat and his scooter also which were, you guessed it, turquoise. But that ’57 Chevy was a subject of conversation for years and years. He would spend hours keeping his vehicles in pristine condition at all times. He also loved to hunt, fish, swim and water ski. Jimmy had many struggles throughout his life that most people would not even able to comprehend. Jimmy was never one to give up so he always pushed forward, worked hard and provided for his family.
During his life Jimmy read the King James Bible cover to cover several times. He was strong in his Christian faith and anyone who knew him or talked to him for more than a few minutes heard the story about the woman who poured spikenard ointment on Jesus' head. He retold this story because Jesus said “Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.”, and so he did. That simple example of dedication to such a small thing speaks volumes about his character. In fact, his convictions were so strong, he once walked into the local Police station to turn himself in because he had accidentally run a stop sign and there was no officer around. That’s a true story.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lilly Maxine Dixon, his three sons (Les, Ed and Jim), daughters-in-law (Sherrie and Jayme), brothers and sisters (Ronnie, Beverly, Catherine and Steven).
He is also survived by his grandchildren (Rachel and her husband Jake, Jodi, Blake, Kyler, Aleigh, Ashley and her husband Spencer, and many nieces and nephews that loved their uncle Jimmy.
There are so many memories of Jimmy’s kindness and generosity to his family, friends and even strangers. The world has lost one of the truly kind souls in the world, but Heaven has gained one.
