John graduated from The University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and he graduated from Indiana University with a Master of Business Administration. He had a storied career with Shell Oil Company where his many varied opportunities culminated in a management position in the Shell Pension Trust. After leaving Shell, he served as Chief Financial Officer of the Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System. At LASERS, he fostered professional management and integrity. Next, he accepted a position as the Administrator for the City of Dallas Employees' Retirement Fund. After a full actuarial review, he realized the employees did not have a fully funded pension plan. He made it his mission to inform Dallas voters, Dallas employees and members of the Board so that a fully funded Pension could be realized. When he retired, every employee benefited from this. The enormous effort made in informing the general public, using media to explain the importance of the vote and giving every employee the chance to participate led to a success.
John's wife of 39 years, Selena, was still teaching when he retired. John's favorite job was being the honorary KinderPa for the Kindergarten children at her school. John and Selena both loved to travel. They often travelled with friends and they often met new friends when they travelled. John admired all three of his sons and was so proud of them. He felt his grandchildren were the most special people on earth.
John passed away on September 23. He is greatly missed by those who love him. He is survived by his wife, Selena, his sons James Kloehr, John III (Norm), and Jonathan Biggs (Heather). He is survived by his grandchildren, Jared Kloehr, Lauren Kloehr, Brandon Kloehr, Emily Kloehr and Kenneth Biggs.
