Lisa Laine King

Lisa King of Bedford, Texas passed away on July 8th, 2026 surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with Cancer.

Born and raised in North Richland Hills, Texas, Lisa graduated from Richland High School in 1974. During her school years she served as a Lieutenant in the Dixie Bells and is remembered for creating the beloved Dixie Bell Salute.

Lisa dedicated 35 years to education in the Birdville Independent School District, the same district in which she grew up. Before retiring in 2020, she taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels. However, her greatest passion was serving as a reading interventionist, helping struggling readers develop confidence and discover the joy of reading. Teaching was more than a profession for Lisa it was her calling.

As an avid reader herself, Lisa shared her love of books with others and as a young teacher, she transformed a storage shed at her home into a library for her niece, nephews and their friends, creating a fun place to develop a love for reading.

Lisa will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and many talents. She was a wonderful cook, a devoted daughter and sister, and a loyal friend whose kindness touched countless lives. Her impact on her students, family, and community will be felt for generations. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Carroll Dean King.

She is survived by her mother, Wanda King (née Woolverton); her sister, Tracey Driver, and husband, Chip Driver; her sister, Libby Hickman, and husband, Doug Hickman; her nephew, Cory Driver, wife Lindsey, and their son, Carter; her nephew, Nathan Driver, wife Shelby, and their children, Brady, Madelyn, and Grace; her niece, Whitney Sparks, husband Ryan, and their daughter, Audrey; and her niece, Caroline Hickman. She leaves behind a large extended family and wonderful friends including best friend of 40 years Susan Fisher and best friend of 20 years Geni Hinojoza and their families.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, colleagues, and the many students whose lives she enriched through her dedication, patience, and love.

The visitation with the family and Celebration of Life party will be Saturday August 8th, 2026 at 6:00pm at the home of sister Libby and Doug Hickman, 8305 Island Circle Fort Worth, Tx 76137. In lieu of flowers find a teacher and make a donation to them to help offset their back to school purchases.
