

Mary Ann Meisel (nee Black) passed away on August 22, 2020, at the age of 88, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mary Ann was born in Detroit, MI to Alex and Anna Black and was the oldest of three children. After graduating from Western High School, she attended Wayne State University. She met her future husband Louis “Lou” Meisel while working as a sales clerk at the Detroit Camera Shop. Mary Ann held her own interests in photography and the arts at the time. They were married November 5, 1955 in the Martha Mary Chapel at Greenfield Village. This year would have marked their 65th wedding anniversary. Lou preceded her in death on August 4, 2014.
Mary Ann was a creative homemaker and an exceptional mom while raising four children. She passed on many a life lesson, often times without her kids realizing it. After successfully getting the last child established in elementary school, she re-entered the workforce starting in sales for a local jeweler in Roseville, MI and then later as a salesperson for AT&T phone stores where she excelled and was often recognized for her outstanding salesmanship.
In addition to being a loving mom with a great sense of humor, Mary Ann enjoyed the arts, music and being creative. She was an avid seamstress and was famous for her men’s ties, beanbag frogs and the many outfits worn by her children. Gardening and tending to her many houseplants were other favorite hobbies. As a couple, Mary Ann and Lou loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. Mary Ann was close friends with many of her neighbors and enjoyed afternoon coffee and the arts and crafts sessions they would often share.
Upon retirement, Mary Ann and Lou moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida where they pursued interests such as taking computer classes at the University of North Florida. They also enjoyed many music programs through the UNF music department with a special affinity for their jazz program. Mary Ann also devoted time volunteering weekly at both the Ponte Vedra Library and her local church.
Mary Ann is survived by her four children Lori, Donna, Ron (Gretchen) and Janice (Art). She will also be remembered and missed dearly by her eight loving grandchildren: Jonathan (Nicole), Lauren, Kristin, Carolyn (Fredrik), Stephen (LeeAnn), Abigail, Lindsey and Julia and two great-grandchildren Grant and Lyle. She is also survived by her sister JoAnn (Herb), her brother Darrell (Stacy), sister-in-law Sandra, several nephews and a niece.
Internment services will take place in Michigan and will be private.
