OBITUARY

Michael "Mikey" Peters

August 4, 1961September 24, 2020

Michael “Mikey” Steven Peters, 59, of North Richland Hills, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 in North Richland Hills. Mikey, as he was affectionately known, was born on August 4, 1961 in Colusa, California to parents Carl Christian and Sandra Ann Peters (Atteberry). His youth was spent in Colusa, Butte City and Durham California. Mike graduated from Durham High School in 1979. He earned an associate degree in Mechanized Agriculture from Butte Community College in Oroville, California in 1981. Mike and Susan Oswald Woll were married on February 20, 1993 in Chico California, relocating to Ft. Worth, Texas in 1999.

Mike joined Graybar Electric Company in 1999, serving in several positions and was currently a counter sales representative. It was a job he greatly enjoyed, especially interacting with his many customers. During his lifetime Mike enjoyed hunting, camping, 4 wheeling with high school buddies (the two Toms and Joe), surfing and chatting on the Net, meeting new people and making friends. He never met a stranger. If you were a lucky recipient of one of his bear hugs you would never forget it.

Covid really bummed him out. During this pandemic he was a faithful caretaker for his mother-in-law. Mikey was a big teddy bear of a man, a man of many words, a loving big brother, a confidante, was always kind and incredibly friendly and will be dearly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his father, and father-in-law, Jackson Carttar Oswald. Survived by wife Susan, mother, Sandra Atteberry, mother-in-law, Jenny Oswald, sisters, Cynthia (Steve) Smith, Miriam (Mark) Dennis, Kirsten Peters, and brother Thomas (Jodi) Peters. Sister-in-law Shanan (Rob) Shepherd. Also survived by his beloved nieces and nephew Edie, Rebecca, Victoria, Sandra Rose, Hannah, Jessie and Carl and his Godson Nathan.

I am praying for you and your family. My first thought was Big Mikey left us too soon, he had so much more life to live. Mike was always so helpful and had so many stories to share. Our counter customer's loved him as well as those of us who had the privilege of working with him. May God bring you comfort in the coming days and know that so many will miss him dearly.

It is with a very heavy heart and many years that I share my memory of Michael. I was one of many who had the opportunity to receive many bear hugs from Michael. There wasn't a time when he would enter nor exit and I not receive my much needed hug. Michael made sure I was doing ok and he would always ask about my children and my grandson; it was so easy to talk with him and about pretty much anything. To say he will be missed is an understatement. I don't have the words to say as the shock is too undescribable. I will miss that that smirk of a smile, that booming voice and of course that wonderful warm 🐻 hug. Praying for strength and comfort for the family during this time.❤️

Mikey, my Big Bear of a Brother, we are at a week later and still can't believe you are gone. You have been a father, brother and most of all a friend. I will miss you and the bear hugs you are always so willing to give. Thank you for always being there during my HS years to give me a ride and make sure I was taken care of. We always had fun going out to movies, cursing the Esplanade or working on your truck. I know you thought I was a pesky third wheel; however, I made a new best friend hanging with you guys and he became my husband, Mark. He, the kids, Rebecca, Victoria, Carl and I are going to miss you Mikey. BIG BEAR HUGS TO YOU, REST IN PEACE, LOVE YOUR SISTER, MIRIAM DENNIS

Mikey was like another big brother for me while growing up. Whenever I was over at the house visiting Miriam I knew to expect some teasing and those great big hugs. Your golden heart and loving nature will truly be missed.

It was with great sadness to hear about the passing of Mike. He was a great guy. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's family and friends.

I had the pleasure of working with 'Big Mike' as I affectionally knew him, for several years at Graybar before I moved on to a different company in 2016. I enjoyed our regular chats at the sales counter and could always count on him to share a funny customer story and make me laugh.

Even after 4 years since leaving Graybar, Mike continued to take the time to pass along his hellos to me through a mutual contact. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

My deepest condolences,
Dori Moore

My condolences to Mikes family and friends. I worked closely with Big Mike for a couple of years. Taught me so much. Always there with kind words and a positive attitude. Never had a bad thing to say about anyone. Would give you the shirt off his back. He will be sorely missed by his co-workers and friends. Rest easy big guy.

Michael you were my first child. Your father, Carl, and I really loved you. You were always there for me and your siblings. When you were my escort for my second wedding with George, I was very happy. I loved your "bear hugs" whenever we could get together. Thanks for all memories and this is not fair that you get to see everyone before I, your mom, does.
Love and prayers, Mom
