

Nancy Hauk Matherne, aged 96, died peacefully on June 13, after a brief illness. Nancy was born on July 17, 1918, in Blountville, Tennessee, the daughter of Thomas Henry Hauk and Mollie Elizabeth Nuckolls.
Nancy lived a long and full life, witnessing every major event, disaster, invention, and discovery since the end of World War I. She got her good health from growing up as a farm girl and gained her strength from knowing the Lord. She graduated from Virginia Intermont with an associate degree in Music.
Nancy married Marne Sharp Matherne after he returned from the war in 1946. She worked as an elementary school teacher, a secretary, and finally as an Executive Assistant for the Tennessee Department of Education. She was always active in her church as a pianist and choir member.
After retirement, Nancy moved to Texas to live near her children. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was known as a loving grandma with a lot of class. She also loved to compete with her grandkids, running the Fort Worth Cowtown 10K in 1994 at the age of 75!
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Letitia Sue Sloan of Hurst, Texas, her son Mark Hauk Matherne of Colleyville, Texas, her sister-in-law, Gloria Hauk, of Bristol, Tennessee; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service at 10:00 on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, Texas, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at First Baptist Hurst. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to First Baptist Hurst, Mission Fund, 1801 Norwood Dr., Hurst, TX 76054.
