Nelisa Munguzi Lihanda

Born on July 30, 1975, in Kakamega, Kenya, Nelly was the beloved daughter of Apollo and Florence Lihanda. She carried with her the strength, warmth, and resilience of her Kenyan roots throughout her life and was deeply devoted to her family and community.

Nelly was an accomplished educator whose passion for learning shaped both her own life and the lives of countless students. She graduated from Kaimosi High School before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kenyatta University, a Master of Science in Psychology Education from Masinde Muliro University, and an MBA from Lincoln University in California. She dedicated her career to education, serving with the Dallas Independent School District at Skyline High School. Beyond the classroom, she also founded a tutoring company, reflecting her unwavering commitment to helping others achieve their full potential.

Those who knew Nelly will remember her as an incredibly hardworking woman with a generous spirit. She fiercely loved and protected her family, had a charitable heart, and never hesitated to help those in need. Her kindness, compassion, and quiet strength touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Outside of work, Nelly found joy in reading, watching movies, shopping, decorating, cooking, and grilling. She especially loved teaching and took great pride in sharing knowledge and encouraging others to succeed.

Nelly is survived by her loving mother, Florence Lihanda; her sisters, Stella Lihanda and Beatrice Lihanda; her nieces, Lynn, Paloma, Ivy, Allyson, Flo, and Beatrice; her nephews, Ian and Alexander as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Apollo Lihanda.

Nelly’s legacy of education, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though her time with us was far too short, the lives she touched and the lessons she shared will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, colleagues, and students forever.
