

Paul Sommer of Fort Worth, Texas, died on Friday, September 18th, 2026 at Baylor, Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine, succumbing to cancer. Paul was born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1953, the son of Fred and Betty Sommer.
Paul was a quiet and curious child who was incredibly gifted in math and science. He went on to graduate from Saint Mary’s High School, then earn a Bachelor of Science from Carnegie Mellon University followed by a Master of Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Paul applied his skills to a long and decorated career in aircraft and defense technology, contributing to and leading important advancements in his field. His career included Singer Company (later GEC Marconi), BAE System, and Lockheed Martin. Throughout his life, Paul remained curious and loved to learn about eclectic topics. He stayed well-informed on global news.
Paul loved dogs, and was guardian to many throughout his life. Paul especially adored Bear, his longtime companion, and his two surviving dogs, Sadie and Sally. Paul was often quiet around people, but always had a soft spot for canines.
Paul is survived by his sisters Carol and Sandi (husband Steve), his former wife Tammy, his nephews and nieces Brian (wife Elyse), Nora, Matt, and Victoria (husband Will), and his three grand nieces. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Betty and brother-in-law Kevin.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wine to the Rescue, which supports rescue groups and animal shelters in the DFW area.
