Peggy Lee Morris
June 16, 1922 – December 22, 2017
Peggy Lee Morris was born June 16, 1922 in Calhoun, Oklahoma to Myrtle Lee and Thomas W. Morris. She graduated from High School at the age of 15 in Wister, Oklahoma. In 1939, Peggy moved with her family to Norman, Oklahoma so that she could attend college. Peggy graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1944 with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a degree in Spanish. Peggy continued her education at the University of Kansas receiving a Master’s Degree in Spanish in 1946.
Peggy returned to the University of Oklahoma in 1946 where she taught Spanish for one year before moving to Las Angeles, California where she was employed by 20th Century Fox Studios International Department translating English language movies into foreign languages and foreign movies into English. While working for Fox Studios Peggy took night courses at UCLA learning French, Italian and German. Peggy worked for 20th Century Fox Studios for 11 years, but in the late 1950’s many of the top actors and actresses began working as independents and not signing long term contracts with major studios. That resulted in cut backs in Fox’s International Department, and Peggy was out of a job. She moved to New York City.
In New York City, Peggy got a job teaching in the City’s Public School System in Harlem. She worked for the city’s school system as a teacher and in various administrative positions for 34 years. While working for the city’s school system, Peggy spent most of her summer vacations traveling and living in many of the Western, Eastern and Northern European Countries. She enjoyed her foreign travels, but especially loved living in New York City. When Peggy retired in 1992, she bought a condo on the 32nd floor of a high rise apartment building on the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, but often continued to visit New York City.
Peggy lived in Atlantic City for nineteen years and really enjoyed the area, but in early 2010 her health began failing and her family convinced her to move to Southlake, Texas where all of her family members lived nearby. She bought a condominium at Watermere’s Senior Living facility in Southlake and has lived there for the past six years. She passed away peacefully on December 22, 2017 in her apartment. Funeral Arrangements are pending but Peggy will be buried in the Oakland Cemetery next to her Mother and Dad in Poteau, Oklahoma.
Family members living nearby are her brother and sister-in-law Tom and Carolyn Morris, and nieces Karen James, Sandra Hubbard, Donna Spenk and Jamie Cadiz.
Arrangements under the direction of J.E. Foust & Son Funeral Directors, GRAPEVINE, TX.
