Perry Lee “Lee” Henderson, Jr., 66, passed away on April 23, 2026. Born in New Albany, Mississippi, Perry spent his early years surrounded by family before relocating to Texas around 1985, following his mother, aunt, and uncle to the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
Born with cerebral palsy, Perry faced physical challenges with remarkable courage and determination. He wore leg braces for many years and underwent extended treatment at the Crippled Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Despite these difficulties, Perry’s spirit remained bright. He cherished visits from family, loved playing with his siblings and neighborhood friends, and thrived in activities that kept him engaged and moving—especially swimming.
As an adult, he participated in swim meets and enjoyed participating in other competitive activities, such as the National Victory Games sponsored by the United States Cerebral Palsy Athletic Association. Perry and his family were very proud and happy the day he received his college degree from University of Texas, Dallas campus. Embracing his Texas transplanted roots, he never stopped being a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
In later years, Perry continued to embrace life fully. He was a beloved participant at Camp Summit, where he eagerly joined in every activity and zipped around campus on his scooter. Generous and community-minded, Perry found special joy volunteering for the Salvation Army, faithfully manning the “Red Kettle” outside Neiman Marcus in Dallas. He valued his independence, exploring the city by bus and making friends wherever he went.
When life became too challenging for him, Perry was welcomed at LaDora Nursing and Rehab Facility, where he remained active in games, music, and physical therapy—and where his cheerful nature touched many lives.
Perry is survived by his mother, Jo Elaine Henderson, his aunt, June Brookshire, both of Bedford, Texas; his brother, Joey Henderson, and sister, Pat Henderson, both of Booneville, Mississippi. Perry also leaves behind cousins in Texas, Virginia and Mississippi. And let us not forget Perry’s only nephew, Dylan Harling who resides in Tupelo, Mississippi. A private gathering to honor Perry and scatter his ashes will be held at a later date.
Perry faced many challenges throughout his life but met them with strength, humor, and kindness. To those who knew and loved him, he was the red-headed nephew with endless determination and a contagious zest for life. He will be deeply missed, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is now on his journey to his heavenly home.
Perry Lee's family will be honoring him by placing his name on a plaque on the "Tree of Life" at Center of Unity Church, located at 1650 Hughes Road, Grapevine, Texas 76051. Family members will have a prayer and meditation at the peaceful, wooded spot where they will scatter the ashes, at a later date.
