Richard Charles Herzog, 73, of Euless, Texas, passed away on August 31, 2019 with family members at his side.

Richard was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 19, 1945. He graduated from North Catholic High School and received a Bachelor of Arts from Duquesne University. He married Kathleen Knerler on April 15, 1968. He served as an Army Captain until 1972. Richard then worked as Location Manager for Brownell Electro and later retired from AT&T.

Richard was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church from the time Mass was held at the local Jr. High. He enjoyed being an usher at the Saturday Mass, gardening both at home and at the church community garden, reading science fiction, woodworking and most of all, napping. He really enjoyed music - more than once Kathy came home to the sounds of Celine Dion or Carly Simon blasting from living room into the garage.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Joseph P. and Marion Herzog. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy, his daughters Maria Herzog, Sandy Sauer and her husband Mike, sister Marion Hess, brothers Joseph M., Paul, and Dan Herzog, grandchildren Holly, Brandon, Bryan, Charlie and Abby and many relatives and friends. His humor, kind heart and warm smile will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Euless Public Library Foundation at eulesslibraryfoundation.org.

So many beautiful memories to share... Uncle Rich has always been kind, patient, and charming. Always cherishing memories of his Hawaiian shirts, and the way that he allowed little Jamie to simply explore the cars and surfboards in the prints. Also, the patience that young Ada learned when solving her math problems, with him, while on vacation. The kids learned more from Uncle Rich than they would have learned in school. Wishing much love to everyone that surrounds him, and holding his precious spirit in The Light.

Rich was very dedicated gardner coming out and watering our vegetables. Any time I went out in the morning, I could count on seeing Richard.

Just as we have missed Rich, the garden has missed him even more. I am sure it won't be long before he is directing the rain in the Bedford area.

Rich always had smile and a kind word for everyone when he ushered at St Michael's and handed out the bulletins.

I have been blessed to have known Rich and his wife Kathy. Extending my sympathy to Kathy and the family at this time of their loss. May God Bless All.

I have known Rich almost my entire life. We went to Most Holy Name grade school together, graduated from North Catholic in 1963 and then onto Duquesne University. I went off to New York while Rich went into the Army following his ROTC commission. About two years later I ran into him in Kimpo, Korea on my way to the DMZ.

When our family moved to Texas in 1982, we were greeted by Rich and Kathy who had moved here a few years earlier. We were able to keep in touch over the years at parties, weddings and lunches. Did I mention he was born one day after me in 1945?

It has been a great journey and I always enjoyed his easy going approach to life and the way he laughed.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, rest in peace.

We had the joy of meeting Rich at St. Michael's. He always had a smile and a kind word to share. He had a joyful heart and shared it with all of us. We were blessed to be his friend.

Mr. Herzog could always make me smile and laugh when I visited your home. My favorite memory, that I still share with people, is when he, Sandy and I were in his truck going somewhere. The windows started to fog up and he told me it was because of me and I should hold my breath....so I did. He loved to tease! Sandy, Kathy, and Maria, I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad and husband. He was a wonderful man who loved each of you greatly. I will be praying for you. Love you.
