

Richard H. Thompson, a longtime resident of Grapevine, Texas passed away at home on Friday, March 31st at the age of 94. Dick grew up in Piqua, Ohio and attended Miami University (Ohio) for two years before joining the US Army where he received an honorable discharge as a 1st Lieutenant. After his military service, he returned to Miami University (Ohio) where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Dick worked for the NCR Corporation for many years. His career with NCR took him to Illinois, Oregon, Hawaii, Ohio and to California twice. He moved to Grapevine, Texas in 1990 and ever since called Texas home.
Dick always was an avid fitness and health-conscious person. He celebrated his 90th birthday in a spin class at the gym. He also enjoyed regularly going to the Grapevine Rec Center. He was an inspiration to many. He was a peer with those decades younger than he was on the weight floor and in classes. He was also quick to share his sense of humor and cheerful laugh.
Dick spent his retirement years with many volunteer organizations in Grapevine. He was a proud member of the Grapevine Wine Pouring Society where he worked many of Grapevine’s festivals. Dick joined the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) in 2011. He served in many VIPS activities including patrolling the city streets in the VIPS patrol unit accumulating over 2,000 volunteer hours.
Dick Thompson will be missed by all who had the great pleasure of calling Dick one of their friends.
