Robert Allen Jones, known to everyone simply as Bob, passed away on June 8, 2026, in Denton, Texas, after a courageous journey with dementia. He was 82 years old. Bob was the kind of man who never met a stranger, and anyone who ever walked into a room with him knew it immediately. He had a warmth and energy that drew people in, and he carried that gift with him throughout his entire life.
Bob was born on September 21, 1943, in Berkley, Michigan, to Harold Jones and Eva (Paul-Gretz) Jones. He grew up in a large, lively family surrounded by seven brothers and two sisters, and that sense of togetherness shaped who he became.
From 1965 to 1967, Bob proudly served in the United States Army, a commitment to country that he carried with quiet pride for the rest of his days. In 1967, while in the service, Bob started a family with the birth of his son and a few years later, a daughter which he adored and cherished. He was a great Dad with enormous pride who loved teaching them how to enjoy nature, animals and especially how to have fun in life.
As a young man, Bob worked as a Golf Pro at various country clubs in Michigan and Ohio, turning his passion for the game into a livelihood. Golf was just the beginning, though. Bob was a man who thrived being in the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, camping, boating, kayaking, or riding horseback, he was happiest under an open sky. Everyone who knew Bob, knew he was a enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and the Michigan Wolverines. In later years, he developed a true passion for Texas Toss, known to most as cornhole, and he played as long as his body would let him.
In 1992, Bob married the love of his life, Anne, and their partnership became the foundation of everything that followed. Together they shared a love of travel, good food, fine wine, and the simple joy of being together. Bob was an enthusiastic cook who took real pleasure in preparing a great meal and sharing it with the people he loved. He and Anne also shared a deep love for their many loyal Golden Retrievers, each one trained with patience and adored completely.
Bob was an active member of his community, dedicating his time and energy in his early years to the Jaycees and more recently to St. Mark Catholic Church, where he was baptized and confirmed as a Catholic, and where his faith became central to his life. He believed in God's love and grace and his family takes great comfort knowing Bob now rests in the arms of the Lord. He also spent many years volunteering for the Golden Retriever Rescue foundation.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Anne Jones, who loved him faithfully and endlessly. Bob's also survived by his children, Robert(Rob)Allen Jones, Jr. and Andrea Elizabeth Jones Vanderpool (Vaughn), along with his stepchildren, Ian Schank (Pilar), AdamSchank (Sharon), Nate Schank and grandchildren, Hannah Jones Blanchard (Jake), Rory Schank, Rhys Schank and Owen Schank who were the light of his life and each held a special place in his heart. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved so dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Eva Jones; his sisters, Lenore Reading and Ruth Rivera; and his brothers, Harold ‘Gus’ Jones, Ted Jones (Mary-surviving), Terry Jones, Danny Jones, John Jones, Sr. (Catherine-surviving), Randy Jones, and Billy Jones A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 9 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church, preceded by the Rosary and followed by a remembrance gathering in the Church Hall.
