Robert Emmet Mangan, Jr. passed away in Southlake, TX on November 10, 2018 at the age of 90. He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Deborah Jane Mangan (Winn); Steven Howard Mangan; Kathleen Marie Mangan (Kinney); Michael William Mangan; Nancy Louise Mangan (Miller); and Sandra Kay Mangan (Schulz), as well as each of their families. He is also survived by longtime companion, Peggy House. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen Mangan (Byrne), and Robert Emmet Mangan, Sr. and by brother, William Joseph Mangan.
Bob Mangan was born on September 13, 1928 in St. Paul, MN. He spent the majority of his life in Minneapolis.
Bob attended the University of Minnesota where he studied civil engineering. He received a Bachelors degree in French from the University of Minnesota, Duluth.
Bob served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Tokyo where he served in General Douglas MacArthur’s honor guard. Bob also served as a U.S. Air Force commissioned officer during the Korean War. Following military service, Bob worked in the Foreign Service in Baghdad, Iraq. He also worked for the Forestry Service in the early 50’s.
From 1958 to 1988, Bob worked for the City of Minneapolis Department of Public Works as an Engineering Aide and was retired until his death. Since December of 2015 Bob lived in Southlake Texas in a memory care facility.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on December 21, 2018. Visitation will be held at the Fort Snelling Chapel, 101 Snelling Lake Road, St. Paul, MN 55111, from 10:00 to 10:30. A remembrance service will be held beginning at 10:30 with graveside burial to follow. Father Joah Ellis of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church will be presiding. All who knew Bob are welcome.
