Susan Casner passed away May 27, 2026 embraced in love and surrrounded by family and dear friends after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. Susan grew up in Nebraska, and it was horse racing at Fonner Park in Grand Island where she met her husband and life partner Bill. Susan was a mutual clerk and Bill was an owner/trainer. Their first adventure was backpacking through Europe, and after just a few months Bill proposed to Susan with a Mickey Mouse ring which she treasured.
Settling in Texas, Bill and Susan continued their adventurous and entrepreneurial life. They started and ran business together, and pursued all things “horse”, which led them from the arenas of West Texas to the winners’ circle of the Dubai World Cup and The Kentucky Derby. Susan had an eye for horses and was Bill’s true partner in every venture. They celebrated 50 years of marriage, partnership and deep love in 2025. Susan saw magic in nature. She loved to collect rocks and hike, camp, and ride horses.
Together Susan and Bill raised two daughters, Karri and Kayce. Susan was a deeply dedicated and fun mama bear. She put thousands of miles on her green Cadillac driving between tennis and soccer practices. Both daughters shared their parents adventurous and independent spirits.
Susan will be remembered for her smile, joy, laughter and the kindness she shared with her family thoughout her life. Under her smile was a strength that gave her courage and resilience and made her a steadfast friend.
To honor Susan’s legacy memorial gifts may be made through For The Good, an organization started by her daughter Kayce that works with rural communities in Kenya to empower girls through education and opportunity- Forthegood.org. She would also appreciate support to any other organization dear to your heart.
Susan was preceded in death by her daughter Karri. She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Kayce and husband Clark Anderson, granddaughter Blu and grandson Rayne, sister Christy and Sheri, Sister-in-law Janel.
The family would like thank all of her friends that stood by Susan through her Alzheimer’s, especially Mary Loving-Harmon, Kimberly Balma, and Selena.
Susan Casner’s legacy will live on through every life she touched. We will celebrate her life and reunion with Karri later this summer.
