Susan Kite Huskinson was born in 1955, to parents George and Alice Kite, on a military base in Guam. They soon relocated to Tulsa, where she attended primary school and later graduated from Memorial High School. Growing up, her passions were art, ballet, and modeling. Susan continued her education at Oklahoma State University and spent her summers in London with her father and sister. In 1978, she graduated from OSU with a degree in fashion merchandising. That same year, she married her husband John, whom she had known since elementary school. Shortly after marriage, John and Susan began their life together in Marshalltown, Iowa. They relocated twice more before growing their family, first to Oklahoma City in 1981 and then to Odessa in 1984.
While in Odessa, John and Susan welcomed three children: Matthew, Brian, and Emily. Susan enjoyed teaching preschool at St. John’s Episcopal School, where her children also attended. The Huskinson Family moved to Flower Mound, Texas in 1997 and Susan continued teaching preschool at DKH Academy.
Soon after moving to DFW, Susan started her own interior design business, DesignWorks. Susan, with her lavishly exquisite taste, had an innate gift for making any space beautiful and special. Aside from her family and work, Susan had a true passion for charity and will be remembered for her incredibly generous nature. Her love for animals, underprivileged children, public servants, and politics was apparent to anyone who knew her. Most of her giving was done in anonymity, as she never desired recognition or praise for her generosity. Susan had a heart for the Lord and never failed to remind those around her to keep Jesus at the center of everything, repeating “all to Him I owe.”
Susan leaves to cherish her memory her husband John of 42 years; her son Matthew and his wife Megan; her son Brian and his wife Courtney; her daughter Emily; her three granddaughters Maison, Makensie, and Myer; her sister Sarah; her beloved dogs Socksy, Carlie and Louis; and a host of other relatives and close friends.
Susan’s presence here on earth will be deeply missed. It is comforting to know Susan is no longer in pain and is rejoicing in heaven, restored and whole. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy her children are proud to carry on in her honor. We love you, Mom.
