Rick was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend to many around the world. After graduating from Loogootee High School, he entered the US Navy serving honorably on the USS Bengall and USS Flying Fish. Rick made many lifelong friendships with his naval buddies, attending reunions when he could.
After his naval service he moved to Texas to work for The Wall Street Journal. Although he didn’t work at The Journal long, he made many life long friends there and met his future wife, Lisa Ralston. Rick went on to work for many different companies in IT, sales and business development. At the time of his death, he was co-owner of Sunrise IT.
Mot importantly, Rick was a devoted family man. In spite of traveling around the world for work, he always found time to coach his three son’s baseball teams and serve as a Boy Scout leader. He adored his sons Benjamin, 29, Eric, 27, and Tristan, 22. Through his example, Rick guided his sons to become the outstanding young men they are now. He was immensely proud of all three of his boys. Ben who is loving, generous and considerate of others; Eric who is a free spirit, hardworking and dependable; and Tristan who is kindhearted, compassionate and full of life. Rick’s spirit, love of life and generosity will live on through them. They are his legacy; they honor him by how they love their lives.
Rick was also devoted to his family in Indiana and Ohio. He loved his siblings and his nieces and nephews and always wished he could spend more time with them, especially with his mother whom he adored.
Rick also leaves behind many friends. Once Rick was your friend, he was a friend for life who you could depend on. Rick served his community as a youth coach and scout leader where he helped boys in scouting learn valuable life skills while having fun along the way.
We will miss his wry sense of humor. He could make you laugh so hard you cried with his jokes or groan/roll your eyes at his puns. He had a spirit that drew people to him, often having strangers start up conversations with him. His easy, friendly manner made everyone feel comfortable. We love you and will miss you.
