Justin is survived by his spouse Jessica and children Jayden (13), Jenelle (4) and Jayce (8 months).
Justin was born in Dallas on September 2, 1982 to parents Jim and Peggy Poynter. He attended grade school through high school in Arlington, graduating from Lamar High School in 2001. Justin was an excellent student, lifelong reader, and a standout athlete. He was a two-year starter and All-District
honoree in football for legendary coach, Eddy Peach. His senior year the Lamar team reached the state semifinals. Justin graduated from Texas Christian University with a BBA in Marketing and Entrepreneurial Business from the Neeley School of Business. He was a born salesman with an outgoing and tenacious personality. Justin became a leader in several sales organizations, culminating at his last employer, Arthur Marshall Inc “AMI” where he was VP of Strategic Partnerships and recently made a partner. In 2014, Justin met what would become the love of his life, Jessica Stephens. They quickly fell in love and were married in 2016. Justin and Jess built a beautiful family and Justin loved being a father and husband.
Justin’s leadership and communication skills made him a natural coach for his son Jayden’s and daughter Jenelle’s sports teams. He was a volunteer coach for numerous seasons with i9 Sports. He loved coaching and looked forward to each of the 12 seasons spent with i9 Sports. Justin was a natural born leader and had a God given gift of being able to instruct children of all ages in a way that made
sense and most importantly, was FUN! He won the i9 Coach of the Season award twice for exemplifying the i9 sports philosophy. Justin was his daughter Jenelle’s hero, and she would not leave his side when he arrived home from work in the evenings. Although just a baby, Jayce resembles Justin and
loved to wrestle with Dad, both with big grins on their faces.
In 2020, Justin was diagnosed with melanoma. This began a 4-year cancer journey that unfortunately reached stage 4 in a short period of time. Despite this, Justin continued to work full time nearly every day, right to the end, amazing his medical team, employer, family, and friends. It was truly a marvel to watch him lead his company nationally in sales and help raise a family, all while fighting advanced stage
cancer and without complaint! Justin possessed an incredible faith and his love for Jesus helped him march on knowing that the Lord was with him “all the way.” Since Justin’s passing, AMI produced a wonderful video and narrative tribute about Justin that can be accessed at Justin
Memorial Compressed.mp4 - Google Drive In honor of Justin’s extraordinary legacy, AMI has renamed the annual Apex Award to the Justin Poynter Memorial Apex Award. “This award will be given to the recruiter and marketer who perseveres above all others to reach the "apex" of success, embodying the
spirit and determination that Justin brought to our team every single day.” Justin was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. Near the end of his life Justin wanted to be surrounded by both at their new home in Grapevine. He got his wish. Justin loved to play soccer, coach, grill, golf, and was a natural born
storyteller. He was always the life of the party, and truly lit up any room that he entered.
