On May 21, 2019, Alan Shulman passed peacefully with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Mara. Loving father of James and Dana, daughter-in-law Gail and son-in-law Daniel Coffman. Cherished grandfather of Alexander Daniel Shulman Coffman and Benjamin Alan Shulman Coffman. Devoted brother of Betty Jacobs. Alan graduated with a Bachelors degree from The Pennsylvania State University where he served as President of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. A decorated WW2 veteran, he served as a navigator in the U.S. Air Corp in the Pacific theater. He was a habadasher and owned Steven’s Hats and Century Men’s and Boys’ Clothing Store where he loved engaging with and helping people find exactly what they needed. He married the love of his life Mara in 1966 and they traveled the world together for 53 fabulous years. They were well known for their epic summer and Christmas eve parties. When he decided to “retire”, he got a job as a bank teller at his local bank. Alan became the much loved “little old guy with the bow tie”— the go-to teller at his bank. He earned a 15-year service award and continued working for another few years before truly retiring. His happiest moments were spent with family and friends, sitting in the sunshine, and reading the New York Times from cover to cover. He was a magnificent person in ordinary disguise, was treasured for all the best and most enduring reasons, and will live on for as long as there is a beating heart that knew him on this earth. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Jake Wetchler Foundation for Innovative Pediatric Cancer Research (http://www.dontletthecancerwin.org/)
