Burt was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Sylvia Goldreyer, his wife of fifty-two years, Stephanie Reyer, and several great family dogs who he loved dearly -- Snoopy, Cinda and Sasha. He provided for and was the patriarch of a large and loving family who survive him: 4 children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren (and 2 spouses) and 2 great-grandchildren. His recent partner, Marilyn Bond, and his older brother, Jerry, also survive him.
Burt was the consummate “doer.” After college, he obtained a Master’s in Engineering from Columbia University, and ran a successful mechanical contracting business in NYC alongside his brother for years. After retiring, he obtained an MBA just for fun, and at well into his 70’s was the oldest MBA recipient ever to graduate from C.W.Post at the time.
Burt was an upbeat guy who had many lifelong friends, loved making new friends, and truly enjoyed life. He read books and traveled widely, was a lifelong and accomplished tennis player, and shared his many passions with his children, including games of touch football and years of ski trips, schlepping 4 kids on long drives or flights to resorts near and far. He briefly took up sailing, but with a family prone to seasickness, that was short-lived. He loved to eat, though couldn’t do much more than make toast. He enjoyed making Excel spreadsheets to distribute before large family trips, and always welcomed each new addition to his family, by birth or marriage, with great enthusiasm. He truly embraced life, and his energy was boundless. His life can’t possibly be summed up in just a few paragraphs. He will be sorely missed.
In remembrance of Burt, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, charitable donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society or the Sierra Club, causes that Burt cared about deeply.
