I am so sorry to write this now: I just read about this.  Mr Kerner was one of the sweetest souls and kindest gentlemen I ever met.  He tried to teach more than poetry - he taught how to be a grown-up.  That was not easy in those frustrating years back at Tilden.  He and Joel Dick kept a bunch of us beatnik wannabe's going until we could learn better.  And that is how one generation takes care of the next.  Thank you, Mr Kerner.  May your name be for a blessing.

Just found out today that Everett Kerner passed away when I tried to send birthday wishes over the weekend.  Everett Kerner was THAT TEACHER who had such a great influence on my life, who helped me recognize who I was and who I could be intellectually.  He taught more than Honor English, he taught his students about appreciating literature and art and opera and life.

Mr. Kerner was a wonderful principal who thought about students and his professional responsibility for them all of the time.  Mr. Kerner was genuinely one of the kindest educators I have ever known.  He is missed.

Mr. Kerner was the best teacher and one of the kindest people I have ever known.  His was a profound influence upon my adult judgments, achievements, and joys.  Condolences to Mr. Dick and the rest of us he has left here.  He has many stars in his crown!
