My very belated condolences to the family of Irwin Krive. I was a student of Mr. Krive’s back in the mid 1980s in New York. (In a culture where the female students were actually called upon to “ quit” physics class because “this class isn’t for girls”. And my guidance counselor told my parents that I was “clearly not cut out for science” after scoring a B+ on a project). When people ask who my favorite teacher was, I always answer “Mr. Krive”. He taught industrial arts in my high school.  At the time, I was the only female student in that class. Mr. Krive successfully instilled within us all the “I can do this” attitude. He treated me no differently than the rest of class and pushed me to achieve. He invested his time, his affection for his students and his wisdom and I could not be happier with my memories of Mr. Krive. He was the only teacher I had who told me that “I could” and then pushed me to make sure I did. I started my career in mechanical drafting in the 1980s and after many years in engineering (where at times  I was the first female employee in engineering) I am now team lead in a product design group in a robotics company. I would not have gotten here without Mr. Krive’s insistence that I too can do this.  What a wonderful man. You are very blessed to have had him in your lives. His memory will live on - what a wonderful legacy he left behind. I looked him up to write a letter to him to thank him for the faith he had in me in a time when even my parents subscribed to the notion that “girls don’t take shop class” but found his obituary instead. I am too late , but hope these words reach someone who knew him. 

Irwin Krive was my mentor.  I met him at Weber Jr. High School  where he was my shop teacher.  We became very close friends over the years.  When he transferred  to Sousa Jr. High  I had him for Industrial Arts until I went to high school.  I worked for him doing projects during the summers and on weekends.  He was like a second father to me.  We lost contact when I was drafted into the Army.  I did meet him one time after while riding on the LIRR coming home from work.   I have been an Industrial Engineer and a General Contractor.  Every time I ever picked up a tool or designed a project I thought of him.  He was a great man.

My condolences to all of Irwin's family. With fond memories and wishes for the eternal memory of Irwin, from back in Port Washington, NY.
