I was 7 months old when I started going to Dr. Gorvoy until the age of 10. He was treating me for my Cystic Fibrosis and he always called me his little pumpkin. I loved seeing him at every visit. He was a kind and compassion doctor. I am 34 years old now and I still remember him. His memory will be forever internal .

Dr. Gorvoy was my pediatrician throughout my childhood. He was a caring doctor who always had the best interest of his patients at heart. I remember he would stop by just about every single day when I was in Schneider's Children's Hospital with severe bouts of asthma. I was admitted there for one to two weeks on several occasions.  I am saddened to learn of his passing. Belated condolences to his family.

I remember him as a kind man and went to him long after I should have because I was comfortable with him. I remember he came to our house In Bellerose once or twice. my parents were very fond of him, 

I'm sorry I'm so late with these words, but better late than never, yes? When my oldest of three daughters was born in LIJ, she had trouble breathing, and needed to be in the neonatal ICU for almost two weeks. Dr. Gorvoy, a pediatrician we happen to have chosen before her birth based on endless recommendations, was an amazing source of comfort  and wisdom during that trying time. Of course, except for the years we were in Chicago for my residency, we felt so very fortunate to have this lovely and amazing man as our pediatrician. A few family members felt it would have been better to have a younger pediatrician. But no, not for us! This old-style gentleman, the sweetest and wisest doctor I have ever known, was the best choice we ever made. I wanted not to forgive him when he retired from private practice - but how could you not forgive a man who chose to devote all his time to continuing his fight for kids with cystic fibrosis, a battle that he had engaged in for so many years already? My daughters loved Dr. Gorvoy, as did we, the parents. May this very special man's memory and soul be blessed!

I just came across this! When I was in 1st grade (1962) I contracted Scarlet Fever. I was confined to bed from Halloween til Christmas. Dr Gorvoy found the time to check in on me  at our apartment in Glen Oaks every day! Amazing!

Dr. Gorvoy was my pediatrician and I am 53 years old now. He was also my kids pediatrician because he was so wonderful. We had to stop using him and find new pediatrians because Dr. Gorvoy retired from his private practice to devote his time solely to cystic fibrosis at LIJ. He was the most compassionate human being but most importantly the greatest doctor who was always on target with diagnosing. All of us who had him for a pediatrician were blessed. My condolences to Mrs. Gorvoy and the family. She was the best also.

I took both of my children to Dr.gorvoy, he was not only the finest Dr. , but more important the finest human being, my kids went almost until their teens. My wife and I are deeply saddened by his passing

I was thinking today about my childhood and googled Dr. Gorvoy who was such a big part of it.  He was simply the BEST in his field.  Sorry to hear of his passing but I can see he left a loving impression on a lot of people.

Dr. Gorvoy was a wonderful man and a great doctor. I took my sons to his office and even when I moved upstate I continued to take them downstate to him for shots and checkups. I am saddened to see the obituary. God Bless Dr. Gorvoy and his family.

My family and I think of Dr. Gorvoy often as I am now a mom. I just searched his name on a whim and learned of his passing. He was my pediatrician and I have nothing but fond memories of visiting him. How many can say they have good memories of pediatrician visits? He was a world class doctor and I feel privileged to say he was my doctor. My deepest condolences to his family. I'm glad he had a wonderful, full life and he impacted SO many positively. His mark will span generations, I want them to know what a difference he's made in my life and how I raise my children. They have a lot to be proud of in his life well lived.

My mother felt lucky to have such a terrific doctor as Dr. Gorvoy to bring me to as a child.  She always said she could trust him completely.  I'm saddened to hear of his passing.

There will always be a soft spot in our hearts for Dr. Gorvoy. He was our pediatrician for our 3 children. When our son became terminally ill, Dr. Gorvoy was our comfort person for us and for our son. He will always be remembered by all of us. Our best wishes to his family. We just loved him.  He was our doctor since we were kids. All 5 of us. I remember still going to him when I was a young adult because we felt so comfortable with him. He will be missed. He stayed with my sister when she was in the hospital at a very young age and in intensive care.  He cared so much about his patients. He was an outstanding physician.

Dr. Gorvoy was my son's Doctor he was the most dedicated compaassionate man, he made you feel like you were a part of his family.

Dr. Gorvoy was a compassionate, brilliant, and beloved physician.  He was the pediatrician for me and my sisters and most of the neighborhood around us in Glen Oaks, Queens. We were so lucky to have such an amazing doctor. When I was in college, I worked in the office for him and he was a kind and generous boss.  He was an elegant man with a great sense of fairness.  He had a deep booming voice that commanded respect, but also had a great warm laugh and sense of humor.   He worked tirelessly and cared enormously for his patients and their families.  He was a great role model.  I was inspired by him and went to medical school.  When I was an internal medicine resident, I called him to ask his opinion about pursuing a fellowship and he gave me sound advice about deciding to become a subspecialist in the field of medicine.  It was an honor to know him.  He touched so many lives in a positive way.  He will be fondly remembered.  My sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Dr. Gorvoy came to my house when I was 12 because i had major stomach cramps.  H diagnosed me with internal bleeding and operated on me the next morning.  That was 50 years ago and i am alive because of him and eternally grateful.

Dr. Gorvoy treated my sister Donna for Cystic Fibrosis from the time she was 8 years old until she married @ the age of 24. Donna & the whole family loved him.

Dr. Gorvoy was the most dedicated doctor my family had the good fortune to know.  He was so loved by all of his patients and their families, and he will not be forgotten.  My sympathies to his beloved family, and to all who knew him.

I got emotional when I heard this sad news and was moved to write this note.Dr Gorvoy was a legendary clinician who belongs in the CF Hall of Fame. A pediatrician by training who morphed into a world renowned CF pioneer dedicating his entire life to the fight against this dreadful and insidious disease. A class act from top to bottom.He diagnosed my son Bobby with CF in 1989 and treated him until his retirement in 2002. We will always be grateful for his professional dedication, his compassion, love, hope and inspiration that he conferred to both his CF patients and their families.He was an old school doctor a real life Marcus Welby, MD who worked tirelessly very often putting in 60-70 hours a week. He was always on call. Who could ever forget those 7:00 AM follow-up phone calls?... with that deep booming voice, "Hello, this is Dr. Gorvoy". Or those 3:00 am emergency room visits when Dr. Gorvoy whould show up to greet, care for,and advocate for his CF patients during often frightening and painful admissions in the middle of the night. What impressed me the most:He was always immersed in the most current CF literature and publications from around the world.He was networked with other CF pioneering docs around the globe always staying abreast of the most current developments in this most complex disease fighting tooth and nail for his patients, always going the extra yard for the kids and young adults.A gentle compassionate most humble man who lived his life by example. Everybody loved him. He made it impossible not to. He changed the course of many lives both as a physician and as a person. I often sensed Dr. Gorvoy  was somewhat embarrassed by the spotlight.You see he wasn't doing this for the money or any accolades.He loved his calling and loved his patients. I have learned a lot fom this man, a true model of humility, a quiet unassuming hero who left a deep mark that his family and friends can be proud of. My deepest condolences to his wife Florence,his children Jill and Joseph and grandchildren.It has been an honor and a privilege to have known this man and our deepest thanks to all he has done for my son, my family and the CF community

My condolences to your family. Dr.Gorvoy delivered me into this world 50 years ago, and has been remembered ever since. My Mom used to tell me I gave him a kiss, when he gave me a shot. I still remember the pictures on the wall in his office of the parents "encouraging" their children!!  He was a wonderful man and Doctor.

Doctor Gorvoy was an amazing Pediatrician.  Our whole family has used him for many years.  Even were you were not his patient when you were older, if you called him he would help you.  My daughter was 18 and in a car accident, he tried to help me transfer her to LIJ, she went to NYU in Manhattan.  He still would check to see how she was.  He would never turn you down.  Whe my daughter was three, I called about her being ill, he met me in the hospital and took care of her.  He will be so missed.  Loved him more than I can say from my whole family.  May he rest in peace.  My heart goes out to his family of this wonderful man.

Doctor Gorvoy will always be a hero in our family for his truly unique dedication to the care of his patients.

Dr Gorvoy  was my Pediatrician .Our whole family loved him.He was well respected and loved by all.

My daughter was 3 weeks old when she became Dr. Gorvoy's patient in 1976.  She was diagnosed at birth with CF and he took care of her until 1999, when I retired to Florida.
Laura went to college in Florida, but we always had her see Dr. Gorvoy when she came home  during her school vacations. If she wasn't well while in Gainesville, she would fly home so Dr. Gorvoy could see her. 
I didn't trust any other doctor and I owe him my daughter's life. If he knew I was upset, he would call me to see how I was doing and to reassure me that Laura would be okay.  He holds a special place in my heart. I have never met a doctor or a person as compassionate and understanding of what it was like to take care of a child with CF.
He was such a dignified man--and my daughter greeted him during our initial meeting by peeing on his hand. (I was mortified.) As she got older, she would give him a kiss on the cheek.
My daughter is alive because of Dr. Gorvoy--and I will never forget him.  He is a great loss to humanity and to the medical profession.

I loved Dr. Gorvoy!!! He was the most amazing Doctor to me and wonderful with my parents. There is no better CF Doctor in the World!!!! I would not be alive today without him. He was the most compassionate, loving, and supportive Dr you could ever have!!! I know all the CF people who have had him now have a special angel!!! He is irreplaceable and will be missed!!!!!!!!

I had the distinct honor and privilege of working as part of Dr. Jack Gorvoy's team in the Cystic Fibrosis Center for 15 years. There are simply no words to describe the respect and admiration I had for Dr. Gorvoy. He was the most dedicated physician I have ever encountered in my 30 plus years in health care.  He was a truly gentle man. 
I will always hold close to my heart our early morning conversations in the  office (Not quite as early as the  morning calls he made to check on patients on his "list") and always with Enya playing on his tape recorder.
  Jack was an exceptional collegue and mentor. He taught me about caring for patients with cystic fibrosis, but even more he helped me grow to become a better human being.
The world was truly a better place because of Jack Gorvoy

So difficult to express our feelings for this wonderful doctor, and  truly beautiful human being.  He took care of our daughter, GraceAnn, for 22 years.  She truly loved him, and that alone speaks volumes.  God Bless You, Dr. Gorvoy.

I first met Dr. Gorvoy when my son Steven was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 6 months of age.  When Steven had his first crisis the following year, Dr. Gorvoy was on the phone 3 times a day every day until this crisis passed.  He was a caring and compassionate man who could be totally depended upon.
The first time Steven was in the hospital (for an operation unrelated to cystic fibrosis) when he was in the first grade and I went to see him, he asked me if I knew that Dr. Gorvoy lived in the basement of the hospital.  I asked him why he thought that, and he said that since Dr. Gorvoy came to see him at 6 o'clock in the morning, he must live in the hospital.  And as so many cystic fibrosis parents know, that was a very true statement.
Over the years, Dr. Gorvoy was our security blanket - always there in times of need.  And when Steven passed away at 30 years of age, Dr. Gorvoy was beside his bed holding his hand - faithful to the end.
It was truly an honor to have known him.

Dr.Gorvoy, or DJ,( Dr. Jack), as our daughter Meghan called him for 21 years was the most amazing doctor and friend a family could have. He got us through the tough times,and never let us go through it alone. I know the heavens are singing his praises and Meghan is leading him on probably dancing with him right now. Jim, Brienne, Jimmy and I send our condolensces to Mrs Gorvoy, his rock all these years. How proud you must be to have such a wonderful husband and friend. This week Dr. Jack Gorvoy joined the girls in heaven. He was the one who helped us all to live with this terrible disease, and lived we did.  I am so grateful for his support, knowledge and love in making the best for our family.  I had said to him upon his retirement that we needed to clone him. He laughed but he was one of a kind and couldn't be replaced for sure.  The photos of the girls are possible because he made us all strive to accomplish all that we could.  I am so proud of my girls.

Thank you Jack, rest in peace that you so richly deserve!!!

Dr. Jack Gorvoy will be held close to my heart for my lifetime and after.  He was more than words could ever express.  My son has cystic.fibrosis and Dr. Gorvoy was with us for.the.first 16 years.  I think of him often and wish his family thoughts and prayers but what a wonderful life he lived, you must be so proud.  He is with St. Theresa now , continuing miracles from above.  Love and peace

Jack Gorvoy was our daughter's physician for over thirty years. We brought our daughter to see Dr. Gorvoy at the age of three after she had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. The minute we met him we relaxed and felt that we had found the right doctor. We knew there was no cure but we also knew Jack Gorvoy would provide her with the best possible care. He more than lived up to our expectations. He was always there for our daughter and his excellent medical care has helped her have a very productive and normal life. He managed to be at the hospital at the birth of our granddaughter before we arrived. He was an extraordinary human being, a superior doctor and was totally immersed in the research pertaining to cystic fibrosis. We extend our sincere condolences to Florence, who was his major second on our daughters health care teem, and his family. We can only wish the world more Jack Gorvoys.
