
Joshua Abraham Elkin, 89, of Wantagh, NY passed away Thursday , November 24, 2022 at Excel Rehabilitation facility in Oyster Bay NY. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 20, 1933, he grew up in Manhattan’s upper west side. He enjoyed sharing many stories of his childhood in New York; talking about grade school memories and of times with his parents and grandparents. He graduated from Stuyvesant HS in Manhattan in 1950, and NYU, Heights Campus in the Bronx in 1955. Afterwards he was drafted into the Army and initially served in Aberdeen, MD and eventually discharged honorably in 1961. During that time he was proud to have marched in Dwight D Eisenhower’s 2nd inauguration in 1957.
He wed Phyllis F Elkin, née Rothseid of Brooklyn in 1955 and the couple remained devoted to each other until her passing in 2001. After returning from Aberdeen, they lived in New York City until 1968 when they moved to Wantagh NY, and raised their two sons, Gabriel and Steven.
A graduate of Brooklyn Law School in 1964, Joshua eventually worked many years for Nassau County as an attorney specializing in Tax Certiorari.
Joshua is survived by sons Gabriel (Lynne), Steven (Nancy) and six grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Andrew, Emma, Laurel and Joseph.
